This tremendous passion can explain why and why this passion of you and mine and many people, to make bows and arrows, to shoot with them! I think it is a great mystery, not just a passion.

I'm honestly so glad I stumbled upon this channel about a week ago and I've been binge watching your videos since. It's given me a lot of confidence about successfully turning a beautiful piece of yew that I harvested a few weeks back into a proper bow. It's been inspirational to the point where I had to give it a go with a piece of ash i got at my local hardware store just to practice, in my bedroom, while waiting for my stave to dry. Keep up the good work.

Hi Daniel! Well, I wish you the greatest of luck with your yew bow - but you are right to practise first with a common wood like ash. Better to do some learning on an easily replaceable piece of wood than spoil a great piece of yew! I wish you well - and thank you very much for watching videos on my channel and sending me your message. Appreciated! Mick

Loved it. Chills up my spine. Best parts.Music setting the mood. Close of hands gently removing small amounts of wood. The tillering process with you out of focus ( putting the focus on the process and not the individual). The ending with you silhouetted against the sky.

All humans are human, thankfully we’re as different as each of Mick’s staves. All with our own characteristics and ‘bents’. If you want us ‘all’ to enjoy and appreciate ‘all’ of Mick’s vids, as you do, then I know you will understand ‘disappointment’, but, as Mick says, “You just have to get on with it” carry on regardless !

Both hazel and yew staves have been sealed with glue and now stored away ,just a waiting game ,but i have a friend that makes laminated bows ,so while i wait i might have a go at making one ;)
@MickGrewcock
@MickGrewcock 7 жыл бұрын
Okay, goo idea to have a crack at laminated - why not do as I did and get a part finished laminated stave and finish it off? Great way to get a bow quickly, no need for all the gear to do the laminate and a quick entry to tillering. THere's a couple of videos of me having a go on my channel. I used Irondale Longbows for supply of stave, very reasonable price too. Good luck. Mick

Monochrome and the music choice worked really well . Did you think of chucking a sepia wash on it at all ? :) Not only is the content retaining and enhancing its worth, the actual filming and editing is clearly evolving from clip'filming to film'craft... step aside, film artisan Grewcock coming through ... Power to your elbow Mick... Went seeking that music . couldn't get any sense out of the site you linked. Probably me though ... Again , huge enjoyment from that , even wordless, film ...

Hi mick, have found myself some nice hazel trees that have been coppiced a few years ago. There about 45mm thick. Would these be ok to make a light longbow from?
@MickGrewcock
@MickGrewcock 5 жыл бұрын
I like hazel. Yes, 45mm thick will make a good bow - if it’s a good piece of wood you should get 40-50lbs without too much worry. Good luck!

Hello! If the next bow works out - wonky yew, my 10th -- then I may upgrade myself to a novice! Thanks for the comment on the vids too. I am probably a film make who builds bows, rather than a bow maker who makes videos! Thanks for watching and commenting. Mick

Hi ,I am a new sub to your channel ,i have shot firearms for about 15 year and just gave it all up ,and i am missing it big time ,i have been looking in to medieval weapons for a while and i am into metal detecting because i love history ,i have always wanted a longbow and was thinking of making my own ,i then came across your channel ,i think its one of the best as you are a English man making them ( not saying there is anything wrong with other people from other country's making them ) you go into depth with making bows ;) excellent video by the way , do you ever sell your bows ? ATB Pete

i did not have enough time to shoot and it is getting more expensive ,work and family commitments ,also once i could shoot 5 rounds through the same hole at 100m i got bored ,i even tried shooting black powder to try and have a change but it did not work for me ,,i did have a take down bow about 15 years ago
Won't be making any more Longbows.
