The first version was nice, that grey streak on the right looked like hair. But the 2.0 version is a lot more impressive and scarier. The red pops out really nicely. Awesome job! You could hang it in your room only for Halloween and then take it off but i have a feeling it will grow on you :)

I also liked the first version because it conveyed a lot of motion, sort of like a ghostly cowl blowing in the wind. It definitely need more work though, and I agree, the 2.0 version is much more impressive and creepifying. :D

I think the grey works really well with the stark white eyes. They really stand out without more of the same level of white to compete.

As a lover of masks, this is gorgeous! If only it could be worn. The surrounding canvas is also amazing, but I can't help but admire the mask itself. I also like how the black forms an unnaturally long and thin neck for the mask.

Love the color palette as usual! The way the initial pour+tilt made the shapes around the face look almost like hair. Though I feel putting this up in my appartment would manifest a murder mystery or gothic horror taking place here, so let's not. ^^*

I wonder if you can get some cheap canvas or something to cover the edges of the mask to make it seem more seamless as it's rising up from the painting....

Couple of layers of smooth tissue paper and mod podge could help, maybe?

@@dapperfinch Ooh, there's a good idea, yeah. Just something to make a more gradual transition (prob best done before the pour, really!)

It reminds me of this 9 x12 black sun face test that my dad painted on a red background when I was a kid, he did a 60 x 60 of it for some friends. Gosh if that thing didn't scare the crap outta me as a kid, and my parents kept it in their room... so much for help with nightmares.

You should put it in the hallway where you gotta pass to get to the bathroom at night! :) Anyway this rules, pour painting looks super fun and it's very satisfying to watch what you make! I really wanna have a paint-pouring party with my artist buddies someday...

I think using peach or coral with some dashes of a transparent yellow could help make it more gruesome. I found adding a "plasma" look to blood color schemes helps

Question: How long does the paint take to dry? You use so much paint in this in very thick "layers" it must take ages.

@@PushingUpRosesArt As I thought ages. From the perspective of a miniature painter who uses like microliters of paints that dry in a few minutes ;D

It looks a little like the Japanese masks you get, I think in their opera (that does name a specific name not sure what) cool though. Have you thought about getting a canvas and sinking a mask into it to create a negative image, maybe do the canvas first then, cut out the mask shape, then you could have the inside of the mask done separately, sinking it in afterwards.

i wonder how doing one of your "spine pour" techniques might work on a mask like this. you would probably have to make the spine very narrow to fit all 3 strips on the mask. i wonder how it would look combined with the symmetry of the mask.
