Had some leftover water buffalo belt leather and decided to challenge myself to make a Firesteel loop and Dangler for a Mora Companion bushcraft knife while enjoying a rainy day in the woods.
Paddled to and from a perfect island campsite with a tarp, food and a few small hand tools. Hope you like!
(For those unaware a "Firesteel" is a fire lighting device commonly used in the woods due to it's waterproofness and longevity. A "Dangler" is a way to drop a knife sheath lower on your belt where it is more easily accessible below a shirt or jacket.)

So what's going to keep the fire steel leather loop from slipping down? Did I miss something? I didn't see and glue just a friction fit that's gonna slide with gravity or use. Maybe some pine glue or birch to hold it on so you won't have too? I must have missed a step on the second watch

You're correct that it's just a tight friction fit and it has actually slid down on me since making this video. Pine pitch/glue would definitely work to secure it better. I'll likely just add some paracord whipping below it personally. Extra survival item and that way nothing is permanent I can always revert it back to the original.

You can add a piece of innertube of a tire of a bicycle underneath the leather of the firesteel loop. I made a similar set up and that works like a charm.

@@wiltfriedpathuis3539 I thought to do this with gorilla tape but a ranger band is an even better suggestion. Great tip!

a really nice idea to go out in the nature, sit by the campfire and work on a small leather project. i will prepare a small lightweight toolkit for my backpack too . . .
