soak the jute twine in wax or in pine resin if you want to use it as a fuel source that you can ignite easily .

The shrink wrap twine is a great idea. Personally, I carry mine when surf fishing, so mine stays completely submerged in saltwater for a hour at a time, so this setup wouldn’t really work for me personally, but great ideas here. I want to mention I have super glued around the meeting of blade and handle to eliminate saltwater seeping down, and with some light maintenance and polishing, knife stays rust free. For the money, I’ve never seen a better knife. I have many benchmades both custom and regular, but the mora companion is my go to for real grimey work when fishing, and I loved it so much, I bought 5 more exactly the same. Value really doesn’t do these knives justice. Crazy good deal.

Thanks and thanks for sharing! I never considered the Mora for a dive knife. Make sense for the super glue. I have heard seepage can occur even with normal use.

if you soak the twine in wax or pine resin it will be waterproof and even more flamable (one spark fire) . no shrink wrap needed . and you can use gorilla tape for waterproof tape too

I really like that heat shrink idea over the jute. I'm going to try this, but maybe try adding a half book of paper matches and the striker as well and add them under the jute. Between painting those matches with clear nail polish, and the heat shrink tubing, I think they'd have a real good chance of being there in working condition if ever needed. Keep up the great work.

Very well thought out. Pretty much all I need to get me through a hard night. Only thing I might have added was heavy duty aluminum foil. Because it has so many uses. I really like the color choice also great job.
@urbanknifeguy

Thanks a lot. Yes, the addition of foil can work but will bulk it up significantly as I feel a minimum of 18" x 12" piece is needed to be able to make a container for boiling water.

The only thing I can think to add is sharpening tools. Tbh the aesthete in me would put everything some other place except what I use specifically with that knife, but your way you get peace of mind if the knife is your only guaranteed edc. Those 'shouldn't be alive' videos spring to mind.

Hi, great video again , why didn't you steep the jute twine in molten wax before attaching it ? Waxed jute twine is a far superior tinder and flame extender ( you can leave the ends un waxed to fluff up ... ) ? Waxing the jute would also enable you to use ranger banding instead of heat shrink tubing ( ranger band is also a phenomenal wet environment flame extender ) I still like the kit . I'm interested in your opinion on what I've suggested as I'm always willing to learn .

use the light my fire mora which has fire steel inside the handle of the knife you can swap the fire steel out for something else like a little magnifying round with handle which can start fires when sun is out, and helps to see small things, also a pair of tweezers, and maybe a little flat folding nail clipper, and file.

great vid. I too like the heat shrink idea and will look to see where I can find some around here. The only question is that is a lot of metal that could impact the accuracy of your compass. Might want to consider how this is impacting that with a test compass away from the metals?
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy 6 ай бұрын
Thanks! You will have to move the compass away to use it. But being near metal will not damage the compass long term. Only if it is magnetised. Thanks!

This is awesome! Do you make these to sell? How much would you say the cost is for this setup?
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy 6 ай бұрын
Thanks! No I don't make these to sell. I would have to calculate the actual cost. A lot of stuff you might need to buy in a minimum quantity. But I use the material for different kits and pouches so readily have a lot of the items. But I would not consider this Kit particularly expensive to put together. It is finding the items that will take time. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Wouldn't trust that fire steel gadget. sure it's better then nothing but if your in a situation where you absolutely have to make a fire I think it would behoove you to have something a little more substantial. which can still be done in keeping a small profile on your knife. Just an opinion there are many like it but this is mine.

I personally think that using rubber tubes/ranger bands to cover the jute twine is easier.
@urbanknifeguy

From a practical standpoint, it will be very hard to pull and cover a 2" long ranger band over everything. You could use multiple 1/2" bands and overlap I guess. Thanks!

Generally good ideas, I just don't like the fact that it looks to be a only once use item as you have to get everything out to use it and it's not really possible to enlarge and shrink the tubing back into place. but like the items used, it would be a life saver for sure if you get stranded with nothing else..
@myname-mz3lo
@myname-mz3lo 3 ай бұрын
you can soak the jute twine in pine resin or wax so that it doesnt need the heat shrink to be waterproof and also it would be easier to light . the pine resin is also good for making bandages if you get cut . heat it and put some on the cut and it will act as antisceptic and keep the wound covered and even waterproof . old school tricks haha
@cjpsmachado
@cjpsmachado 3 ай бұрын
@@myname-mz3lo yep, I'm kind of old school also, over my 50' and knew of the pine resin as a way for treating a wound as honey, more dificult to get forcsure but as effective. Still I use a home made sheath for my knife that acts as a small pounch that I use crossed across my chest. It as everything I need for survival for 2 or 3 days. Closed it's about the lenght of my ESEE 6 and twice the with, less tham 2 inches thick. Never had to really put it to test, and honestly hope never will, but I trust that with what I have there and my knoledge it would be enought if not seriously injured.
