Thank you so much for making this video. I am a welder and I am actually attempting a life-size full body of General Grievous out of metal. I just finished his head but his neck. I driving my crazy. Like you I've been staring at photos trying to figure it out. But you're video has helped a lot. Thank you again.

@The Creatures Corner it's coming along slowly, I'm doing all this at work on my lunch, so I only have a few minutes to work on him. I have his head, neck, and chest all done. I'm now working on his fingers and hands. As well as the ball joints for his arms and legs. That's about it so far.

Thanks for making this video! I'm in the process of printing out pieces for a life-size battle droid. There aren't any videos I can find that show the build-process, but this I. think has given me some direction with how I should post-process (in addition to my own previous experience). Will probably make a build diary series kind of like this one so others can learn. Thanks again!

My last view of this video before I start the painting tomorrow. I had quite a few issues with poorly fitting part and also missing textures so I have spent a lot of time fixing the problems. I did contact the seller but he didn't respond. I have a different version of the base. I have achieved an amazingly smooth finish on the Head using watered down wood filler applied with a brush, on the head and collar I have managed to get rid of every layer line and its the best results I have ever achieved. Am looking forward to the airbrushing although slightly apprehensive.

Your painting is incredible and a lot can be learnt from watching your technique. Couple of questions … where can the stl files be purchased and (stupid question) what is dry brushing is it with powdered paint
@MMsPropShop
@MMsPropShop 8 ай бұрын
Thank you! The file was originally from Hex3D’s Patreon (not sure if it’s still available) www.patreon.com/Geoffro But Galactic Armoury has a very similar file available: galacticarmory.net/collections/busts/products/general-grievous-bust-3d-print-files As for dry brushing, it’s a painting technique where you put some paint on your brush, then dab that brush into something like a paper towel until you have a very small amount of paint left on the brush and that’s what you apply to your piece. Typically it’s done quite light handed as well. I assume it’s called “dry brushing” because your brush is practically dry with how little paint is on it. There are a bunch of KZfaq videos on the technique by people that have probably done a way better job of explaining it than me.

Oh I love your work! One question, where can one buy this wood filler? I tried googling it, but only comes up with one different from the one you showed. I'm a maker based in New Zealand, making finding stuff even more complicated ;-)
@MMsPropShop
@MMsPropShop Жыл бұрын
I completely get it, finding stuff in Canada can be interesting at the best of times as well. The only place I’ve been able to find it here is Home Depot (I think Amazon might have sold it at one point as well but I can’t remember). In theory though, any colour changing wood filler should be the same texture. You can’t exactly colour change the gritty, wood particles that typical wood filler has, so any colour changing stuff should be plasticy. Not sure if that helps but I hope you’ll be able to find something similar that works.

@@MMsPropShop thanks for your fast reply. Yeah, it's challenging to get supplies in some countries haha. I think I'm a bit spoiled from working at Weta for a while. Atm I use builders bog for much of my filling. It works well, but since it's 2 component stuff, it tends to go off too fast. I found the stuff you showed on Amazon, at least a brown version, but it shows "not available", so I'll need to find some other stuff easier to get here. I'm working with 3d software (and peinters) only since xmas, all self taught, but I had to cleanup some masters back at Weta, also using bog. You can check my channel here if you like, to see some of my (traditional-made) personal projects. Thanks for your videos, I'm enjoying them a lot and they give me some serious inspirations and ideas.

@MMsPropShop
@MMsPropShop 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The head and some of the pieces I’d originally printed were done on an Ender 3 pro, the larger pieces like the collar were done on a CR-10s (with a 0.8mm nozzle), the neck and non resin printed pipes were done on an Ender 3 V2, and finally the resin printed pipes were all printed on a Elegoo Mars Pro 2. Whew, that was a lot lol Right now the printer that I’d suggest to anyone would be an Ender 3 V2. I know there are newer models now but the V2 is the perfect combination between quality of prints, machine upgrades, but still at a reasonable price. I might do a whole video on what I’d recommend to add to the base model as there are a few things that I’d consider necessary additions. And yes, I use Fusion360.
@rickerickson7072

@@MMsPropShop Thank you SO much for the intense reply! I didn't expect that. I'm a noob to this although I have done plenty of military models in the past. This printer you suggest, it will print everything that is required for this bust? Um.... is Fusion 360 hard? Ive never done 3d. Thanks again SO VERY MUCH!! I took a picture of Grevious eyes that this guy had put on his presentation, although he didn't do it like the pic, I would love to share it somehow.
@MMsPropShop
@MMsPropShop 2 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! I’m always happy to talk shop. The collar piece would have to be sliced into 4 as opposed to 2 pieces, but yes, the rest of the pieces will fit on an Ender 3. They’re such popular printers that most model makers now split their files up to be able to fit on that size of printer. There’s definitely a lot to learn when it comes to Fusion360 but I find that it’s a pretty intuitive, well designed program. The good thing is that you can basically google how to do anything in Fusion360 if you can’t figure something out and there will be tons of information and tutorials to help you. I probably only know/use about 10% of what it can actually do.

Oh another question. Which rezin size did you use for Grevious? 1.75,,,,,,,,?? Is there a brand that you prefer for the resin? Will I always have the "threads" showing on the model after it prints then it needs to be sanded? (please note: I AM A TOTAL NOOB ON THIS)

I am new to all this and was considering buying Creality 3d v3 SE as my starter to learn but i have seen a couple nice printers you had on your channel. Any suggestions and while i see how filament printers work, i keep hearing you mention resin printers. I'm not sure if i can afford both currently, so which should i learn on first?
@MMsPropShop
@MMsPropShop 5 ай бұрын
It really depends on what types of projects you’re interested in building. Typically people start with a filament (FDM) printer first and then consider getting into resin (SLA) printing later unless they’re someone who’s mainly interested in printing something like tabletop miniatures. The good news is that 3D printers are cheaper than ever, especially if you’re not interested in getting the newest model. Even if it is within your budget to buy both, I’d start with one so that you’re not unbelievably overwhelmed with all of the things you need to figure out/learn. They work almost in the complete opposite way so it really is like learning two completely different skill sets.
