A detailed video of how I built our long Langstroth hive. Kinda long, but I show a lot of the process along with some very helpful tips along the way. Enjoy!

I like the overall design of the Langstroth Long Hive. I like the idea of having a pitched roof vs a flat roof. I have used the traditional Langstroth hives, but as I get older it is harder for me to lift those deep boxes, especially when they are full of honey. The design shows me that Doug put a lot of thought into the long hive.

I'm glad to see your shop is in as much disarray as mine. Lol. I really like the concept of the long box. I'm a retired heavy duty diesel mechanic turned carpenter and I've built several of the vertical boxes that turned out pretty good. I'll be using a dado set up for the cuts on the long pieces. I like to use rabbit cuts when I do them right. Your demeanor is great and entertaining.

If you can force some room into your budget to install some solar panels on your workshop, and use them to power a split unit heat/AC unit, it will pay for itself very shortly, and you will very quickly appreciate the investment. You'll be comfortable all year long in your shop. If you can install a large enough battery bank, you might even be able to power some of your tools as well. VERY COOL PROJECT, and GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!

Make a tall jig that fits over the fence to run tall boards through the saw safely. I see these cuts all the time and while I'm glad people achieve their cuts without injury, I'm always thinking "YIKES!" when I see these risky cuts being made. I will say at least you used your "shoe" to help run it through. Most people I see use their other hand!
@HisWayHomestead
@HisWayHomestead Жыл бұрын
I don’t do it that often and it’s harder to make a big like that for the delta unifence. The other style fence is much easier to make those kind of jigs

@@OutdoorsandCountryLiving a little suggestion that a friend of mine who has one of these hives said was the bee openings ie entrances should be on the ENDS ie the short ends for some reason it makes the bees spread out more along the hive and also makes it so if you put a separator in the middle of the hive box itself you can actually have 2 different hives in one long langstroth hive box
