I finally created something out of the fabric scraps that I’ve been hoarding for forever! This project was super fun and very much so inspired by the lovely @fromcarlyb ✨

I definitely could! Although, she’s pretty warm because the fabric is rather thick with the lining 😂

The dress is really cute. I like the hem facing also. Can you tell me what Mccalls pattern you used for the sleeve?
@McAraDanielle5 ай бұрын
I used the sleeve off of a blouse pattern. It’s the Mccalls Misses’ Blouse, is what I think it’s called, and the pattern number is 6750

I think this is a beautiful dress!!!!!! I want to know somethings: How long have you been sewing and making clothes? Do you have any videos on beginning sewing? It seems like you would be easy to understand and follow. I would like to make a patchwork skirt. I am a quilter so I have a lot of cotton fabrics and calicos. I’m afraid because I am plus size the skirt won’t be as pretty on me like your dress is on you.
@McAraDanielle2 ай бұрын
Thank you!!! And the answers to your questions ☝️ I’ve been sewing for around 7 years, but really only taking it seriously the last four years. I don’t have any videos necessarily for “beginners”. But I think if you have the tenacity to try something, go for it! Especially in sewing, in my experience, the best way to learn, even if you don’t know much, is to just try, even if it seems really daunting. So I think someone ambitious could try any of the projects in my videos! That being said, I do plan on making some more tutorial-like videos rather than just “vlogs” showing my process. I think a patchwork skirt would be beautiful! You could maybe try an elasticated waistband, if you’d be more comfortable with that. And you could try making it more of a circle skirt shape that would give more of an a-line look. I think a circle skirt would look fantastic on anyone! Thank you for your lovely comment and questions!

Thank you! :) I don't have Instagram though! (Yet. Maybe I should...) I am currently working on my Edwardian corset, so the petticoat is still (mostly) a pile of cabbage until I get to it! @@McAraDanielle

@sewmuchjoy7 ай бұрын
😀I am a recent historical seamstress and sewing a corset is a big step for me! I love to wear (yes, in public 😄) what I create, and I wanted the silhouette to be more historical. Plus it would be more comfortable to wear the proper undergarments, especially with wool skirts tugging at your waist! @@McAraDanielle

Your dress is beautiful 😻 I’ve a question: how do you calculate the length of each stripes of the skirt? I’m a newbie😊
@McAraDanielle4 ай бұрын
Thank you!! I honestly just eyeball it because I’ve made several skirts at this point 😅 But a good rule of thumb is to have each layer be twice as wide as the previous layer, or even longer for maximum swooshiness.

Did you pick fabric of the same type, or were you focusing more on their appearance? Is it comfortable to wear for typical day-to-day activities :0? I'm just learning how to sew, and I'm super interested in making sm like this one day!
@McAraDanielle7 ай бұрын
90% of the fabric I chose was cotton, so it was a little bit on the the thinner side, but still sturdy. And I definitely was focused on appearance too, but I made sure that the fabric was all similar thickness so it would gather nicely and evenly. The dress is super comfy! It’s a little more extravagant than something I’d wear day-to-day, but I’m definitely gonna wear it around the house a ton. That’s so exciting that you’re learning how to sew!!! And I’d say just go for it if you’d like to make something like this! For me, the best way to learn how to sew something is to just do it, even if it is intimidating. And for the most part, sewing really isn’t hard once you know the basics, it’s mostly just time consuming 😅 Anyway, I hope this helps and good luck with your sewing!!!

Great job on the dress.😊 Love that you used all those scrap pieces. ❤🥰❤️ I had to show your video to my husband today because we look like we could be sisters. 😊 You remind me so much of myself at your age. I just subscribed!!! We're a small channel too. I'll put a link to our Chimpunk Fun playlist (I hand feed chipmunks) if you want to check them out. Sooo cute!! 😍 We mainly focus on DIY & Gardening, but we have a handful of sewing videos there too. kzfaq.info/sun/PLSxporun3iMjwMeRojucvPou3DHxd9lG8&si=gS-XpAgFfmH96Z-Z On a side note... Just an honest comment IMHO... It does look way oversized for your petite size though...🤔 Maybe take in the sides a bit so there's not so much fabric?? ...unless, of course, you were purposefully looking for the oversized look, then just ignore that. 😁🥰😊 Looking forward to seeing more of your sewing videos and to watch your channel grow. ❤️ ...Dawne

Aw thank you!!! That’s so sweet!!! I’d love to see some chipmunk videos so thank you! And yes, I was going for an oversized look that way I didn’t have to deal with closures and I wanted it to be comfy too 😂
@happyhomeandgardenjohndawne7 ай бұрын
Cool. ❤ Yes... closures are definitely extra work. Seems like u put a lot of hours into it already. I had upcycled a denim jacket into a Dr Who theme and it took over 140 hours😲 Came out great and I'm able to wear it, but I still need to add pockets. Been working on a house project for months, so haven't had the time for sewing 😪 Been watching a lot of sewing videos lately though. 🥴 I'm visiting my mom in Florida in January, so she's got some sewing projects for me. Yay!! 🤩 ...Dawne
