HALLOOO!!!! (ween)
So as the last days of October approach, I am hard at work on my last project of the spoopy season and needed to upload something a bit more laid-back. So HERE YA GOOO! The pumpkin door from Nightmare Before Christmas! You could consider this part one of two, if ya like.
I tried my darndest to make this more of an understandable tutorial rather than the chaos I generally tend to portray. Hopefully it's helpful if anyone decides to recreate it! I had a ton of fun and it only took me about a day, so... TALLY-HOOOO

Pro-tip for Rachel (and other sewists out there): Hardware stores sell these Strong Magnets on a Stick things that are shaped like mops, but they pick up metal bits. They're supposed to be used for getting washers and bolts off your garage floor or whatever, but NAH, the BEST USE for them is getting all the needles and pins out of your floor before you step on them.

@@linnetcreative I'm UK and my textiles teacher had a magnet for pins, albeit different (it was plastic and magnet shaped, with two strong magnets on the ends but easy enough to remove the stuff picked up)-I THINK my college sewing room has one too but I don't remember as clearly. idk where they got them from but just so u know that hope for your carpet is alive

The only problem is a lot of pins these days aren’t magnetic. I think maybe cheaper ones aren’t? I don’t know the cause but it’s super annoying... But magnets are the best pin holders so I always double check the pins before I buy any!

Fun fact from your local archaeologist: When excavating an American historic-period site that was once a domestic structure, finding straight pins and buttons are a given. So. Many. Pins. And buttons. Therefore, I like to think of it less like ever-present hazards and more like my contribution to the archaeological record.

Something that always stuck with me about the setting of Nightmare Before Christmas is the heavy use of texture in stop motion. In Halloween town the environment rarely has smooth edges and its all looks cracked and detailed. Even the hills, trees, and buildings match this.

Hooray! I checked-no Rachel . . . I thought you’d be too busy. And then . . . If your pins are made of steel, you can get a rolling magnet to pick them up. It’s basically a 24-inch magnet with wheels at each end and a handy, er, handle for wheeling it around. I use mine to pick up stray nails, bailing wire fragments, etc in the pasture, but it would be a dandy sewing room tool too.

I've seen a few people suggest magnets for picking up pins, and I agree, it's so much easier! My mom drops pins and needles all the time, and they sometimes even get stuck in the seams of the wood floor. She decided to buy a magnet tool, it's just a magnet on a stick, and it works great, especially since you don't have to bend down as much to get underneath furniture. Total lifesaver, 10/10 would recommend! Anyway, love all your videos! The chaotic energy has Excellent Vibes.

I’m also in the process of moving and I’m barely keeping up with the one class I’m taking; it’s incredible that you’ve been able to put out as much content as you have! Wishing you an unchaotic moving day 🙏🏼

this was so fun!!! I moved this year and don't have the budget to buy all the decorations I want, so I've been having to DIY stuff this year, which makes this video perfect!!

It turned out great. Also your first look with the orange blouse was lovely. I really like the Jack inspired look for the reveal as well. You are a Halloween queen.

I'm trying to craft Christmas presents and my costume for comic-con (also in December), all at the same time... because I clearly hate myself. There are few things I break for as an excuse to procrastinate, and your videos are definitely one of them.

Rachel and the Giant Pumpkin? Rather than James and the Giant Peach? I can just imagine...a bat lady and a kindly skeleton, an apathetic ghost cat(the ghost of only one of the nine lives). She enters it from the top at a pumpkin patch "world's largest pumpkin" it says. She slips on some pumpkin slime and knocks the pumpkin over and the pumpkin rolls down a hill and into the woods below the farm. A spooky scary woods. She lights a candle and carves out windows to peer out, making a jack-o-lantern. Outside is claymation halloween wonderland in the deep woods. She needs to get back home. Also frodo is her animal companion maybe she's in her pumpkin lady attire? Only the batlady, ghost cat, and skeleton man know she's human. Anyways somehow she needs to help the halloween forest dwellers with making props and fixing their costumes for their Halloween production of...Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat. The farmer of the pumpkin patch wants to expand the farm into the woods and somehow she has to play the headless horseman to scare him off from the woods so the forest people can keep their home.
