Welcome to my vlog channel and thank you so much for watching! I've been wanting to make a raised bed and grow fruits and vegetables in my garden...and finally did it! A lot of our neighbors are farmers and they give us vegetables they grow all the time so I'm hoping I can give my fruits and vegetables back soon!

Looking forward to seeing your first harvest 😁Please make sure you get bird/animal safe netting!! It is very sad seeing birds and other creatures getting tangled, hurt and killed by the wrong kinds of netting being used

Thank you for the video. It's allways amazing to see, just how much effort goes into these projects. I feel like a lazy person, my appartment doesn't get much sunlight and while I want to grow flowers and such, there isn't much that I can do here. 😭 It's just my opinion, but I think, just using the vegetables your neighbors give you, is already something you "give back". If I would grow more, than I can use and sell, I would be happy to know, that it's not going to waste. There is only so much you can use yourself after all. Seeing vegetable becoming bad, is rather sad. And knowing that the person I give those vegetables to, is a good cook, would make me rather proud. And who knows, maybe they saw some of your videos and enjoyed the recipes you shared?😊 I can understand your view too, that you want to give something tangible back. Well, give it time, I'm sure it will come. (I really need to start to listen to my own advice... I'm rather impatient over something and need to wait too 🙃 I'm a lot less graceful about it, than you. I'm just glad, that noone seems angry about it) The rised bed looks great. No wonder Haku likes it. Well, I wish you a great harvest. 🥰 Lots of love from europe🤗

I know the struggle of getting produce from neighbors and not knowing how to repay them, lol! I had a neighbor at my previous apartment who worked at a food bank and sometimes gave us fruits that the bank still had. I once turned some plums she gave into a plum cobbler. I had never made a plum cobbler before, only a cherry cobbler, but the ones she gave us were so sour, I figured baking them was probably the best use for them. I gave her a large plate of it and hope she enjoyed it. It tasted better on day two and beyond, once it sat in the syrup and became sweeter.

I've had the pink lemonade blueberries before, they don't taste lemonade-y per se, but they do have a sweet-tart flavor with a hint of lemon? They're really good! Hopefully your bush does well and you can try them for yourself 😄 Good to see the bed frame is Haku approved, too.

Careful with planting paprika and peppers next to each other, they are cousins and when the pollinators come they may cross pollinate and the plants will hybridise

The garden bed came out really good, it's great you remembered the arbor to repurpose as a bird net, keep an eye on your blueberry bushes as some birds will try to eat the berries even before they ripen. One thing I learned about growing any sort of peppers is fruitflies love them and also citrus, since you have both planted in your garden you will probably have to spray to keep the fruitflies away (I've had to do that every summer, even the hottest peppers don't deter them).

I love that you built your beds! Just a suggestion for the future: Peat moss is a non-renewable resource and you could use multiple other materials like coconut coir, mulch/wood-based products, compost, pine needles, rice hulls, or leaf mold.

Jun is so innocent, “Rachel loves spice, so I’ll just buy the Trinidad scorpion, the literal spiciest thing on the planet” 😂 I love the raised bed! Yes! Blueberries are native to the americas, and are common in the southern US! They're called 'Rabbit Eye' because the white to pink-ish berries can look like an eye with an iris, like a big rabbit's eyes. There's lots of different varieties, but these are some of those most common for producing big fruits. You may want to consider bird netting- as they're very popular with wildlife! Good luck with them!

I've seen lots of people use the method of painting rocks the color of whatever fruit they've got planted (in their case it was strawberries) so that when the birds go down to try and eat them, they learn that they're not food, and so they left the real fruits alone. It could be worth trying out :)

I have always loved having a big garden, one year I had over 40 tomato plants and half a dozen types of pepper/chili plants (about 12 of each) A one-acre garden is a lot so I ended up paying the neighborhood kids to help. Plus I gave their parents many bags of veggies and jars of canned salsa and canned tomatoes.

In America we prune the bottoms of our pepper plants 12 inches up and pinch off the bottom leaves to improve pepper production as well prevent root diseases. The important distinction is to pinch the lower leaves off, and not snip them off as that will leave the capillaries of the leaf open and the plant will “bleed”. In any case, I hope this information is useful to you! Your garden looks incredible, and I got some ideas of my own from it for my future plans. Happy Gardening sir!

Jun, in a raised garden, you want the soil all the way to the top. The soil does settle a bit after awhile so you want to allow for that settling by initially bringing up the soil to the top. Also, look into no-dig gardening. By cultivating, you're bringing up weed seeds up into the raised bed.

Oh, and blueberries LOVE WELL DRAINING SOIL so you might have to keep an eye on how much water they get where you've put them. Ideal place for them is on the side of a hill, but second to that is a somewhat rocky place, and not having that around, little watering sessions many times over one big soak and they do well, they do love water, they just don't want it all at once like that too often.

So much fun! I have a container garden on my deck and I've learned a lot in the last year. Blueberries really do need acidic soil. They also need a certain number of chill hours, so don't worry about protecting from the cold unless the flower buds have started to swell and open. Winter is the best time to prune because you can see the flower buds. With peppers, they are actually perennials if you can protect them from cool temps. They start to pout below 50F/10C.

Trick I learned from my mother for keeping local animals from munching on your garden: put the shed fur of a dog near it. The smell of the dog will spook most rabbits and deer and keep them from nibbling off the new growth of your plants in spring. My mother had a Chow and spun his fur into rough yarn after brushing him. She then used the yarn to surround her veggie plots. The rough yarn falls apart by late summer, and various other animals will take it for nesting and burrow material.

I have to be careful though as i can't have flowers i always end up sneezing all the time so succulents and cactus are my friends. right now I am living in supported housing due my disabilities but they are helping my to get things on track and sorted so i can live in my own home with floating support which means someone will come in once or twice a week to check in with me and do whatever i need help with. my disabilities are mental and physical but we are slowly getting there with the help i need now. I really need somewhere near a park if i don't have a garden as i will have a support dog by the time i move out as well.
