I wanted to make a board that would be good on small days that we often get in Papamoa but could also rip the bigger swells, so I had this idea to make a retro twin fin surfboard out of recycled materials. The overall cost of the board was about $165. Which is cheap. I'm suuuuper stoked with how it turned out and it's so fun to surf. Yeeewwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joshua recently married and moved out of home. The board went with him. It has been used, abused, dropped, kicked, shelved, dragged out and thrashed again and still looks as good as the day after its first wave. I have been impressed by its durability and rideability. I'm gonna put pressure on him to do a follow up to this with surfing it and reflections/reviews of it and see if we can get some mates to ride it and give their thoughts. Summer is almost here.... Dad.

That looks like the Styrofoam I used to make my board years back. I used fish boxes, since I work with seafood. My board is still holding together years later, probably because I put excessive resin on it, it's a battleship.

for the stringer pretty sure i marked out the total length and then every six or so inches marked out the height to get the shape of my rocker that i wanted and then drew up the profile and cut it out. Sorry for the late reply hope this helps.

@joshuadathsbc5765

Hey, I didn't shape mine with any concave. The board is really durable (that was one of my concerns too) just make sure there is a stringer in there for strength and I went two layers of glass on the bottom and one on top. It is a great daily rider, it's awesome to surf. Definitely, give it a go!

Jason Filla take a pencil, lay your friends favourite board on its side rail on top of a length of stringer plywood and draw around the board rocker and walla rocker is drawn onto plywood. then cut on the outside of the pencil line and glue stringer into foam blank. you can use white pva wood glue or gorilla glue tto glue it .

@@joshuadathsbc5765 hahahaha nice that you tried. I used 0.8mm wire. It measured around 1.0 Ohms for 1.5m length of wire. So would have got 12 Amps @ 12V (didnt measure), I found it cut somewhat on the slow side for figure cutting, but worked perfect for controlled cutting of the EPS board. I might suggest taking a wire just a bit thinner, or up the voltage.

you may save on foam but you spend more than double on epoxy resin than polyester resin . if you use polyester resin on that cheap shit foam your ma will have to call the fire department.
@Surfmus
@Surfmus 5 жыл бұрын
Incorrect. The same ounces used to laminate a PU is the same as to an EPS. You are using ounces/liquid to cover an area. Hence it's the same. You may want to find information to back up your comment. And if you're going to write that Epoxy resin is spent more for EPS, it may be that you think EPS foam sucks more resin, yes it does, if it wasn't sealed. But it has to be sealed first with light spackle. You can also seal it with epoxy and microballon and it takes less than 5 oz. On each side to seal it.
