Awesome! I love experimenting, and making a mess is half the fun. This is such a neat idea. *adds distress ink bottles to Amazon cart* 😂

This made for a fun hour on a Sunday afternoon! I love playing with my art supplies. I ordered a couple of those empty markers to fill with the Staedtler blender and can't wait to play when they get here. For the water pen glitter, I'd have to go to a hardware store to get ball bearings though, lol! When I started seeing videos on the SN glitter pen, I had to check out one vs my WOS. I still preferred the WOS, but when I went back a couple months later to check in the comparison, the WOS was gone. I checked my coloring books where I had used it and it was no longer glittery - I don't know if it fell off or disappeared, but I don't use it anymore. You know she's a teacher when she stops shaking the water glitter pen to close all the bottles around her....😂😂😂 Thank you for this very fun video!

Try some Ox Gall it's a wetting agent for watercolor and may help with your iridescent water pen. I would have loved more of these Frankenstein videos when I started rather than collecting sooooo many supplies. I did Frankenstein a lot with Lindsay The Frugal Crafter even though she's not a colortuber.

I’m guessing it also acts as emulsifier?

@@catherinechinoy2774 I'm guessing so, yes. :) The lecithin and the two bile acids would definitely work as emulsifiers.

I’m giggling because I have had so many similar explodey ink experiences. Glycerol has been good for slowing the ink absorption onto less sized paper, but if you drip it on the page it doesn’t dry, and the pigments continue to bleed! I guess its humectant properties in action!
@catherinechinoy2774

I think I would make up a stock of diluted glycerol and alcohol, then have it ready and consistent for making up other inks. My blender solution is 30% glycerol, 30% isopropanol, so that would be my starting point. It works through the foam brush tip pens I’ve tried so far
@colouringchemist
@colouringchemist Ай бұрын
Yes - too much glycerol would just make the solution a slide-y slick on the paper. :) Are your percentages for your blender solution by weight or by volume?
@catherinechinoy2774
@catherinechinoy2774 Ай бұрын
@@colouringchemist volume, though it’s not very accurate measuring the glycerol

Hi Connie! So I wanted to watch this video because I’m looking for blending alternatives to the Tombow colorless blender, and love the idea of a refillable marker with replaceable nibs! My 2 big questions… do you know or could you test: 1) does the blending solution work with Inktense? And 2) does it cause ghosting or bleed through to the other side of the paper?
@colouringchemist
@colouringchemist 9 күн бұрын
I just did a test - the Staedtler blending solution dissolves Inktense better than an alcohol marker colourless blender but just a little less than the Holbein Meltz solution. The Holbein Meltz and the alcohol blender pushed the pigment through to the other side of a piece of thin copier paper but the Staedtler blending solution didn't. The Holbein Meltz pushed the pigment through to the other side of a piece of cardstock but the Staedtler solution and the alcohol blender didn't. So Holbein Meltz dissolves Inktense the best but it ghosts quite a bit on the other side. The Staedtler solution does quite well and doesn't ghost. :) Hope that helps!

@@colouringchemist excellent! That’s what I was hoping would be the results, that the Staedtler solution would work. I think I’m going to order some with one of those refillable pens with extra nibs. Thanks so much for testing this out for me, I really appreciate it!
