This is the making of the Wearing History Archive Couture 1897 Morning Jacket: www.etsy.com/listing/77344130...
This is a historic pattern with very limited instructions and I really bumbled through making it, but I'm so happy with how cute it turned out in the end!

When I was growing up, we always wore these. Handmade by my beloved mother. We called them brunch coats.

I haven't heard that name in years. I don't know when brunch coats turned into dressing gowns. It's only now I realise what brunch means. I thought it was a fancy name for child's ruffled over the pj,s coat. To me, a bed jacket was short and worn to sit up in bed for reading before sleep or for illness, to keep the shoulders warm. I grew up in Australia and imagine English heritage is the influence in naming these things. 💜🇦🇺🐨

That'd be really cute to lengthen the top pieces into full length for a wrapper/house dress/tea gown.

I prefer to use a glue stick to glue the paper pattern pieces together as it secures both sides of the paper, no flapping! Also allows for a bit of wiggle room if you misalign things the first try.

I love the way you had the diagonal stripes at the front. When you showed the “lapels” I couldn’t help but giggle with you. Great video once again and thoroughly enjoyable to watch.

Yes, the vocal track was accidentally mixed for mono instead of stereo, so if you have dual speakers and one is low/blocked the vocals aren't as clear. My apologies!

oh man that is such a useful tip, to WEAR the sleeve you're not supposed to be sewing on! i get so paranoid about this approximately 400 times when setting sleeves in. also, glad to see im not the only one whose cat-assistants love getting in the way just when you've got the fabric laying how you want it!

14:57 Old Sturbridge Village once made a collection of historical fabrics?! That's amazing! I'm going to have to see if I can find any bolts available online. For anyone who doesn't know: Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts rescues historic New England buildings from up through the 1830's and relocates them to the historic village they've built to preserve the buildings as one huge living history site. It's very much like Colonial Williamsburg, except none of the buildings originated at that site! It's one of the coolest historical sites I've ever seen, and I highly encourage checking it out if you've never been. There's also a historic clock museum in the visitor's center that was super cool!

Can I just say how nice it is to see someone with the same body type as me ('fleshy' as my patternmaking textbook calls it) sewing things? I love Angela Clayton and Bernadette Banner but their bodies are simply not the same as mine, and sometimes it feels a little like I'm in high school again, looking up to women with bodies 'better' than mine.

Very informative and really useful in terms of pattern cutting and fitting. These patterns are clearly just a very loose guide and the rest needs to be worked out for oneself. Thank you for this, I found it inspirational to bump my own efforts along towards tackling a first corset (trying to to scream a little bit at this point Lol!) Oliver is a gorgeous and loving little cat, I have a Border Collie who insists on shoving his head in my lap at the most awkward moments, I couldn’t do without him though.
