How to build an inlayed dovetail box!
Check out my online shop:
www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SeanEvel...
In this video I am making a sliding lid box for some chess pieces. The carcass of the box is made from ash I milled up a while ago and is constructed with mitred dovetails. The box has to inlayed edge banding strips wrapping around the whole box, the inlay resembles a chess board which is in keeping with the boxes purpose. This video is a step by step build video to show you every process from mill up the timber, planning it flat, hand cutting the dovetails, inlaying the box and finishing it.

Very nice project, I like the look o the ash. The mitered dovetail joints are very interesting as well, I have not seen that before. And those segmented vases already look stunning! The small one really reminds me of the vases Kyle Toth makes, very elegant. I look forward to the upcoming videos!

HI Paul, thank you very much! yeah the mitred dovetails are very nice, and a bit harder and take more time to make. Yeah i was inspired my kyle toth a lot. He's a great maker! I'm looking forward to showing you the upcoming builds!

Good day Sean! Well done in general... but the bark pull.... freakin' brilliant. Much respect for your attention to detail. It does add to the whole effort when one knows this came from what most see as firewood .You done it again brother! Thanks for your efforts of sharing. BYW I love how your comment in the edit and not while you work, it makes for a very enjoyable presentation.

@@SeanEvelegh I have 2 people I would like to see you discover. Here is the first... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rslphpmqx9nYeKs.html . I would wish you this set-up. The second link is a wood smith... If he needs something he grabs a log, or harvest one. On the rare occasion he needs a nail.... he makes it...yea ...smiths it, old school square! Any way, I thinks you could learn new ways to create kzfaq.info/love/HkYrJ2Fbe7pBjEZvkFzi3A.

This woodworking book is really detailed, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* ! With the aid of this plan, I was able to use words, drawings, real images and different diagrams. It is really an informative product. I am presently making furniture together with my brother and thanks to this product, I feel like helping him is possible.?

This woodworking book *TopFineWoodworking. Com* contains a great deal of details about woodwork. There are some designs in the book but it is primarily explaining the procedure of how to do various things and what tools to use to accomplish them. In general, this book fulfilled my basic desire to learn about wood working.?

That is a gorgeous looking box, loved the details you put into it. fantastic work. The tip about using mitred dovetails on carcass's rather that square dovetails was really useful., thank you. I've been sketching some plans for my first box project build and have now changed it to having mitred dovetails instead of the normal butted one's. As soon as all this Covid craziness is over and i can hopefully get some time off work, i'll be getting started on it :-)

Nicely done Sean (again) 😁. More fine quality woodwork. Great tip about the bottom groves... I have made this mistake so many times (normally all on video) and end up trying to fill the ends... it sometimes works.. I need to work smarter 🤔. Fantastic use if the word "Smoosh".. by the way 😂. Stay safe Sean and keep up the top quality 😁👍

Hey Lucy, I have thought about doing lining, but not flocking. I know some people who have tried that and they say it's not that durable and sort of falls off the walls?

The dark areas are known as Olive Ash because of its similarity to Olive wood. It's caused by a non-damaging bacteria. Your wood isn't a particular stunning (sorry!) example. Your particular ash tree probably wasn't that old, given the width of your boards, thus not allowing the "Olive wood" time to develop. Anyway, the box is stunning.

I am stuck on you saying you need to take a chain saw training course for your license.
@SeanEvelegh
@SeanEvelegh 3 жыл бұрын
There are courses you can go on, to teaching you how to operate a chainsaw correctly and how to to cut down a tree safely. At the end of the course you get a license, so you can use the chainsaw outside of private property and get paid. It illegal in the UK if you don't have the license.
