How To Make Amazing Inlay Banding!
In this video I will show you how to take your work to the next level with Inlay banding. Inlay edge banding is amazing to look at and really sets your work apart from the rest! You can inlay these strips into picture frames, table tops, boxes and cabinets! You can create any pattern you like, glue it into a block and then cut it into thin strips to inlay into whatever you like! This is a step by step tutorial from milling and cutting up the wood, experimenting with different patterns and finally glueing up the inlay blocks! In an upcoming fine woodworking box video, I will be inlaying all the inlay strips onto the box to create a stunning geometric pattern!

Sean, your work is impeccable and precise. I know you don't want to make videos longer than they have to be but it would be nice to see some of the detail you go to cutting and positioning the wood. You guys make it look so easy, but when us novices start to do this you realize being off a 32nd multiplies into kaos. Either way, its amazing what you can accomplish.

Love the tip at 6:30.. MDF with packing tape.. I won't say that's an issue.. It's more of an annoyance. I have been putting down wax paper taped down.. works well but kind of a 1 use deal and pain to put back.. Also the tip starting at 9 minutes in is a great one. which if I'm feeling froggy next time I'll attempt to get the front and backs to align.

3:36 - Would you be able to practically make large end-grain cutting boards using that band saw? Not sure if I should use a table saw or a band saw, the band saw seems safer to work with for making many inlay pieces.

Excellent Sean.. Love the variations.. Can I ask you this.. Say if you used that in frame.. What do you do about matching the corners? Especially if it's not the same dimensions frame i.e. 11x15 vs 12x12.

Since you have some commentary about things to do and how to do them I assume you expect me to learn from this video. And I do want to learn because you obviously have some very good lessons to teach. I have always been fascinated by how edge banding is produced. However your speeded up video makes learning almost impossible. You show cutting hundreds of triangles so fast I cannot see any detail. If you showed only three or four but in real time I could learn a lot more. All you have to do is show a couple of iterations of each procedure in real time. We are generally smart enough to know that you may have to do several hundred cuts but we don't have to see every one of them. Also when you talk about some of the problems that can be encountered please show what you are talking about on camera. As they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words." And when you show the finished stages please keep the pieces in view long enough for us to see what you have done. Jerky camera work can destroy all the good you have to present. I just today found your channel and realize I can learn a lot from you but not at 10X speed. I have read all the comments up to now and see that many like your music selections. Unfortunately I do not agree. It is all too frantic for a good learning environment. I would mute the music but then I would lose your commentary. Still, thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.
