This really is the best tasting stock I have ever made! The key is to cook it on low for hours, that way you're truly getting all the benefits and nutrients from the bones. Chicken stock can be a wonderful home remedy for hydration and electrolytes, especially when sick. I do not add any seasonings to my stock as I would like it to be as versatile as possible!

You’ll love this… so I live on the southernmost outter banks NC, and needless to say it’s hot. Like 3-digit hot with humidity. My husband decides he wants me to an outside since it’s so hot inside. So we set up the turkey fryer (and my dads too) and I had one set up with the stock and one with dry packed potatoes. So the potatoes, of course floated up-but I had a plan!!! I purchased an old plate from the Salvation Army to put on top to hold them down. Didn’t work, it still needed more weight. So I grabbed a one piece section of the cement garden border I just took out and layer it on top and TA-DAA!!! It worked! LOL!!! I had to wash the jars after cause of the dirt on the outside of the jars, but at least it was sterilized dirt right! LOL! Thought this ‘MakeitMake’ story would give you a giggle! Have a blessed day!

I never canned chicken stock or chicken soup... i just freeze it. But that takes up extra space in the freezer for quite a while sometimes and I do remember from growing up that we got chicken soup from the store in glass jars. So now I got more clued up about canning vegetables I might try canning soup as well.

Delicious. I like to make mine also a bone broth. When the big bones get soft scrap the marrow out into the pot. It's good protein and it helps to replenish the synovial fluid in your joints. That is especially helpful if you have arthritis or joint injuries.

I have been making stocks for over five decades using a Stockport. I cook it three times replenished each time with fresh water. Recently I have switched to a slow cooker and this method will now be my go to.

So are you saying you make 3 batches using the same bones & veggies? I’ve heard of people reusing the bones at least 1 extra time. If this is what you do, do you mix the 3 batches together at the end?

Wonderful video, educational, pleasant, and well made. I’m not sure I’ve ever had homemade stock. I snagged a stockpot from a garage sale last month, so now we can. Same with perogies, I’ve only ever had frozen ones.

ADVICE FOR THOSE NEW TO CANNING: When pressure canning, the pounds of pressure used is dependent on the altitude of where you are located. Do not assume the 11lbs of pressure mentioned in the video is safe for you. Check your pressure canning manual, trusted canning resources (such as Ball canning books), and yes, even government agency resources. For example, in Denver, CO the National Center for Home Preservation as well as the Presto manual for this canner state that 13 lbs of pressure should be used for canning meats at this altitude in a dial gauge canner. It is also important to check the details when water bath canning. The time required is again dependent on your altitude. The higher your elevation, the longer it takes to safely water bath high acid foods. Check the resources listed above for information specific to your elevation.

Hey there girl! Couple things…I just read from another woman I follow that she was tipped to roast/bake her bones for a little while before adding them to boil and she said that it made the stock so much richer with a deeper flavor, so you might want to try that! I’ve never made stock before but I’m wanting to give it a go! I wanted to know if you had the specifics for water bath canning it though. I have done some water bath canning before a long time ago…just jams mostly, but would like to get into it again. I hope you can help me out with an answer! Thanks!

I make bone broth/stock quite a bit, especially after I roast a chicken or turkey or marrow bones are available at the grocery. I always freeze the broth in freezer bags or jars (leaving twice the head space, otherwise the jars crack after freezing!) I freeze because I don't have a pressure cooker and I've heard you can't/shouldn't water can bone broth because of acidity levels. Is there any truth to that, do you know, or can I safely water bath can broth? I don't do tons of canning, but when I do, I have the necessities to water bath can. Also, I'm getting tired of always freezing the broth and taking up all the freezer. It would be nice to be able to use the water bath method and shelf that good stuff!

Hi Leilani ! Question: what is the sediment at the bottom of my chicken stock? I filtered it through a sieve and coffee filter. Is product still good to use? I’ve been looking and no one really talks about sediment. Thank you in advance ❤
@jenbear8652
@jenbear8652 Жыл бұрын
I never worry about the sediment and only use a colander to strain. When I use my stock in soups, gravies or sauces, the sediment is never noticed. It could be noticed if you wanted to serve a clear consumé with nothing in it. Otherwise I don’t think it really matters.

If you cool the stock to lift the fat out, do you then need to reheat it before you laddle it into the canning jars?
@MakeitMake
@MakeitMake 2 жыл бұрын
No, you don't have to to that unless you want to. If you do heat it up it will help heat the pressure canner faster. Happy canning.

When it comes to stocks and jams, I don’t bother with the pressure cooker. I make sure my jars are sterilized, fill them with the piping hot liquid and screw them tight. Never had a jar go bad.
