Thanks for the tutorial on making cable restraints. I have a lot of 7x7 3/32s cable. Figured I may as well build my own. Supplies are coming soon!

It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Plus it’s cool making catches in something you have a part in making. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the information, I have to get certified and get things ready for next year. I did not know about all the parts and stops, but you did a very good job on how to make the restraints. May be I will see you at Port Royal in June. Thanks again.

Thanks for the video. I wanted to find a video specifically on how to make PA legal restraints and you did it. Thank you very much. I just got into trapping this past year and I take the cable Restraint class in August. I’m really looking forward to it. I know that you explained the parts, but would you be able to list your preferred parts, in writing, exactly so that a guy ordering the parts would know exactly what to get to make a complete Restraint?

I usually order CR supplies from Dakota Line because they stock some items others don't. If you go to their website and click view all product categories and choose snare cable, parts, etc., you'll find everything and more.1. Korean cable! It's straight. 7x7 for fox 1x19 for coyote. Every 100' makes 20 CR's.2. 9 gauge snare swivels. I add an extra swivel to the end of these as well. 3. Snare washers. I use two per CR. It seem to let the swivel twist easier.4. Stops 3 per CR. Annealed nuts, Aluminum stops, and black steel stops all seem to work well. I hate the squeeze on deer stops. 5. Lopro deer stops 1 per CR. I use these for the stop that keeps the CR from closing too far @ 8" from break away device. It's small and reduces fur damage. 6. Locks 1 per CR. I use the ADC washers and Micro locks. Micro locks are small and easy to blend in. ADC washers are heavier and aid in closing of the CR. I like them both.7. Break away device. I really like the release ferrules, but you have to purchase a special swager for them, and they only work on 7x7 cable. For the 1x19 cable I use J hook BAD's 350lb. I believe. 8. Cable cutters. Get the Felco. It's worth the $.9. I get #9 wire from Lowe's to use for support wire. They sell it in 50' rolls. Leave it out in the weather, and it will turn a dull grey. IMO it's superior to what is sold from trapping suppliers.10. For a support collar, I just buy small clear hose from any hardware. It's much cheaper to buy a hunk and cut it into small pieces.Hope this helps.

So how do these snare hold the animal live and not choke kill them like a regular snare? Whats to keep the cable from closing the whole way? I'm new and don't understand
@LiveMoreOutdoors

They have a relaxing lock device. They are designed for live catching animals so we can release non targets. We can’t set them anywhere near something that would entangle the animal. On a side note, the dog in your picture looks similar to mine. Pit mix.

I just got certified here in PA and want to start making my own cable restraints. I know the break away device has to have a rating of 375 lbs or less. What weight break away device do you use?
@LiveMoreOutdoors
@LiveMoreOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
On the 1x19 cable, I use the j hook style. I actually have a mixed bag from 285-375 that I keep reusing. Some were given to me from other trappers. I have never had one opened by a k9.

On 7x7, I use a break away ferrule. I get them from southern snares. You need a special crimper for them though. Southern snares sells that as well. I don’t recall the lbs. for break away on them though. I like them a lot. If they start selling/making them for 1x19, I’ll be getting some. Best of luck to you this season!

I spray paint a lot of them. Some are just a dull gray from boiling in baking soda to remove oil.

Do you prefer the adc lock or the micro lock? And have you tried any poly tubing for the support wire? I don’t care for the corkscrew support wire holders, I can’t get them to support the cable consistently and quickly
@LiveMoreOutdoors
@LiveMoreOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a little bit of a trade off. The adc lock helps close the cable faster, but it’s more visible. I like the poly tubing much better than the cork screw type. Thanks for watching!

You can get it from Lowe’s, Home Depot, or any hardware store. I believe it’s 3/16” i.d. It gets a little stiff when the temperature drops is the only negative IMO.

Nice, where is best place to buy wire ,ferrules,deer stop,,cam locks.......?????? Minnesota trapping..?? Thanks, almost forgot, wire as in 9 or 11 ..

I buy my # 9 support wire from Lowe’s. I’ve bought some from a trapping supply place, and it rusted quickly. I get a lot of things from Minnesota trapping, but they don’t have micro deer stops, which are very small and effective, and they don’t stock 1x19 Korean made cable, which is very straight. Those two products I order from Dakota line snares. I think I am going to switch all my cable restraints to 1x19.
