About DOBA Studio:
We exist to reduce plastic waste. Sometimes we do it through boosting recycling, other time by adopting zero waste lifestyles, from time to time we organize educational workshops. Whatever works.
We see people in the local community as the key element to fix this mess, we count on people to bring the necessary change. Small steps, multiplied by millions. That's how we can win our battle. We don't believe in techno-utopian, fix-it-all, dream technology.

If you could give the mold a high relief so that the coaster would have a low relief and could contain condensation from the cold glasses, that would be great. Excellent work!
@zancrus9629
@zancrus9629 3 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with you while this looks awesome the condensation is just gonna run down the glass and still end up on the surface you are trying to protect with the coaster.

I agree but I make both types (out of concrete) and people buy more te flat ones even if as you mentioned, water condensation over flows the coasters

A lot of work and a lot of wastes. You can easily optimise this process. First, try to weigh the plastic so that you don’t get much flashing. This will make the finishing process much easier. Make sure the barrel is heated up when you add the plastic, this will reduce the cycle time. Try to get a pneumatic press for injection, this will greatly help with the injection process and make the whole thing more easier and you’ll get a nicer final product. This is because, when you inject using your weight, it does not inject the plastic with an equal injection pressure. By using a pneumatic injection unit, you can make sure the injection pressure is equal. Finally, if you can’t do any of the above, when you see the flashing, keep the pressure on it. It called dwell time in the cycle. It’s usually done for 2-3 seconds (for products that small). Here you don’t have to push the plunger, but don’t take it out. Keep it at the current position for a while. This will reduce the shrinkage which reduces the warping.

There are few processes where you take the cutoff material and reuse it. I love this kind of recycling. More like this needs to be done where we recycle all the plastic for reuse. That will keep oceans and lakes free of plastic that is threatening not only fish, whales, and dolphins, but also birds, seals, etc who get tangled up or ingest the plastic.

I was thinking about the roof tiles. I am not sure how this material would behave fully exposed to sun and weather. And whether it would be fireproof like it might be required. But it would be just so cool to have it turned into light durable roof tiles. I also know about company making cool looking floor tiles from plastic garbage and concrete mix. So if floor tiles are possible, bathroom or roof ones should be too. Just a question of technology.

@theseconddarrin3788
@theseconddarrin3788 3 жыл бұрын
No more than making them from new materials.
@KaffiRawr
@KaffiRawr 3 жыл бұрын
@@theseconddarrin3788 It probably takes more energy to produce these than the bottles they're made from. Energy spent per bottle would be much, much less than energy spent per coaster. In a way these uses more energy to produce, but they use materials that would otherwise just contaminate the environment. It's not trash anymore. For now. They will be someday. If we're really thinking about the environment, it's better to just recycle the bottles like they're supposed to be recycled. That way the infrastructure to recylce that's already in place will get to do it's job. Now with these coasters there's two recycling plants. One is just much less efficient, but also on a very tiny scale. These coasters would need to be recycled on 100% green energy to actually be an improvement. But hey, the thought of recycling sells. He makes money. The bussiness model is working.
