what if you have this set up to make the 2.8 filament and then weld it and then run it and decrease the size to 1.75 filament for a stronger joint and bigger rolls of filament

It's an amazing small filament factory at home haha Yeah, I already made this kind of slicer and works great! You can check my IG reels or YT shorts where I create for example Coca-Cola bottle from Coca-Cola bottle (bottleception haha) using this upgrade. the RPM is a static 30RPM due to the motor used.

it is not an rpm controller that need to be used but a feedback loop with a sensor that mesure thickness of the strand and adjust motor speed. It increases cost but is a needed feature to be able to use different pet bottles without problems.

Hello! Thank you for your great comment! Yes quality of the filament will be better, but cost will be 5-10 times higher. I prepare my project especially to be affordable and easy to make for even the beginner.

@@AVMMM That's an idea, but moving the flakes through the hot end/nozzle is tricky and that's what makes it a bit more expensive. In the plastics business (I'm going back 25 years ago, when I was an embedded systems engineer for the plastics industry), we'd use a screw extruder to push pellets, or flakes of ground up product (that was at a dairy, where gallon jugs that failed in production could be re-used). The best way to feed is pellets, of course - some consistent shape provides the best movement. The whole process was a big bigger in scale, of course. The key to reclamation is in the extrusion system.

The green vase looks perfect as the print lines make it look almost iridescent! For the clear one, have you tried using a heat gun to smooth out the lines, and see if that increases transparency? Would be interesting to test

Thank You for Your amazing comment! Yes, I'm aware that bearing cutter is better, but I was designing my machine to allow for majority of 3D printing community can do it easily. Blade cutter is really easy to implement compared with bearings that we have to modify. In the future for more demanding audience I will prepare for sure bearing cutter with electric regulation of the string height, but for now I focused to create the most affordable and simple device. Coca-Cola bottles are the least demanding bottles, they are almost smooth. Some of the water bottles are really "wrinkled" that cutting it in this state will be impossible. I will check these mig welding nozzles, it interested me a lot!

@@TylmanDesign Mig contact tips 1.7mm can be bought for dirt cheap in local welding stores (bout 10$ for 10 pack) they also have the same thread MK8 as 3d printer nozzles and require no drilling (exiting filament expands a little), as for blade cutters, i had lots of problems with them like filament being stuck, in was really annoying so i made bearing cutter with a simple microdrill (angle grinder can also work but its a bit harder). I have entire uniformity test performed on some of my videos about filament diameter variance.

Yes! Especially that I print a lot of prototypes that will go to the trash anyway... But even using it for any other stuff works great!

Improvements can never end haha Later when version with cutter and removable spool will be ready I will try to make it totally automatic, cutting connecting plastic string and so on. Even inteligent checking what's the thickness of the wall will be implemented, basing on that information cutting blade will change cutting height. But it's a future...I have plan for it, but first things first. Let me quote myself from other comment: Now I'm working on the cutter module, I have to make it the most simply as I can, that all people even without special tools can make it easily. Yes, that's my next biggest challenge, to connect many plastic strings, wind on a bigger spool and process it all! Connection have to be strong enough and not too thick to not affect on filament diameter in these parts. When I will figure it out how to connect plastic strings efficiency, next useful thing will be removable spool, now when we process just one bottle, even really big one removable spool is not that important, but later will be necessary.

Glueing the strip made from several bottles somehow, to make more fillament at once. For bigger prints e.g. mechanical parts later.

Im currently working on the cutter for the machine, the next thing is what You talking about, I will try to connect two string into one to be able to process many bottles at one, but it's a little bit challenging. In this case removable spool is neccesary to implement, but now when we procees one bottle, even if its super big removable spool is not that important.

Yes I was aware that in some countries it's not worth it to process the bottles in this way, because there is "return system", but many countries don't support this system and instead of throwing away the bottles we can recycle it in so efficient way taking into account we make it at home!

Germany changed the system to every plastic bottle i think?

@@curryking7663 Yes you can return every bottle but there is still a lot of non reusable bottles that get taken back just to be destroyed. You return them just to seperate it more from the common trash.

and also unfortunately even the returned once are often burned for energy instead of recycled. there is a good arte documentation recently, can recommend to watch it. really sad that even exported plastic trash to other countries is considered "recycled" in the eyes of the law in germany.

Printing temperatur of the HDPE(polyethylene) vary from 230 to 260 celsius degrees, so quite the same like PET. I think processing this kind of bottle in my machine could be possible, but I will need to make some tests. At the earliest opportunity I will try to do it! PE bottles can't be cut the way he shows, because it's too weak, and stretches like bubble gum.

I made some tests, HDPE is more soft and ductile. It was more demanding during cutting, but it was possible to make it, further processing due to material characteristic is almost impossible. Like @7CConstitution said, it's like bubble gum.

@@TylmanDesign You need to shred and inject it through an extruder, because pulling it deforms the filament diameter. When I pulled PE through a knife, it stretched, but I didn't know about the bearing cutters at the time. So that would cut better. But what's the point, it stretches too much in pulling extruders. PVC, the same. PP might work, but it's hard to find. Nylon might work, but you can buy that at the weed wacker supply. But screw extruders will always work. Try RepRap 3D Printer RecycleBot.

It's a bit more complex since they have to be of the same type for ideal filament and they'll have to be ground up but the extrusion and collection part should remain the same

I was measuring temperature of the screws and it was about 65°C. PETG withstand max "just" 80°C unlike 100°C for ABS, I always liked to have wider safety range. You can try to print heater base using PETG and see if it won't melt/damage, but I don't give a guarantee. Maybe try to ask someone from 3D printing community in Your area to help You to print these elements from ABS. I think probably PETG will work, but will "wear" much faster, specially during the pulling proccess there are strong forces that can permanently deform the "soft" PETG.
