This video is about the proper and easy way of making compost tea at home.
Compost tea is an all-purpose nutrient-rich liquid organic fertilizer, made from warm casting or compost, which can be used in any plant - vegetables, fruit, flowering, houseplants and even in seedlings or young plants to boost their growth. Compost tea is also used as an excellent hydroponic organic fertilizer. It's a balanced fertilizer enriched in almost all the Macronutrients (Primary: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) and Micronutrients which the plants need. Apart from that, when added to potting mix or potting soil, it can significantly increase the populations of beneficial bacteria, fungi and other useful microbes into your soil which help the plants grow stronger and defend against number of pests and soil-borne diseases. You can use this fertilizer any time of the year and most importantly you can make this easily at home at almost free of cost. In this episode I try to demonstrate the simple and proper way of making the compost tea. I also discuss what are the things or mistakes that we should avoid while making this.
The ingredients we need to make the compost tea are: non-chlorinated water, any compost (like vermicompost or leaf compost or cow dung compost or even your home made compost), food sources for the bacteria such as molasses or jaggery and food sources for fungi like humic acid, seaweed, kelp or liquid fish fertilizer. The whole fermentation or "brewing" process takes anywhere between one to three days and we should use the compost tea within that period.
