It might be easier to put the dial in the middle of your black pad when applying the logo. The white circle within the black circle does something to your vision aswell, it has some impact on what you feel to be the center.

Hi - thanks again for the great series! What products did you use for applying the matt finish? On the one hand I think it would be good to help keep the logo attached over time, but I am worried about yellowing over time.
@WatchComplications
@WatchComplications 4 жыл бұрын
Krylon Crystal Clear, Matte. It is "non-yellowing," though, time will tell how true that is. The trick to application is several coats, very thin, and timed carefully with 2-3 minutes between very light sprays. You have to do it right and patiently if you want good results regarding the overall application.

I really want to thank you for these videos. I'm a part-time Watchmaker. I got very interested in dial making a few years ago, and watching your videos sparked my interest again. I was trying to get a perfect redial of a 1956 International Watch Company dial. I wish I had these videos a few years ago. You are a very exact person, and that's great in a Watchmaker, or any profession. I would have thought the white date outline was on purpose if you didn't point it out. Have you experimented with using a laser for the plates yourself? If yes--would you give your opinion on the the different types of lasers? It doesn't seem like you would need a high powered laser in order to etch acrylic, but I don't have a clue. Have you tried using decals, and a ink jet printer? If yes--what were your thoughts. I find myself thinking about re-dialing a lot. Years ago I had the opportunity to buy original brand name plates from a Watchmaker who was going out of business, but foolishly passed on the plates. He told me he had the original plates from the factories. They did look old. I think about that missed opportunity a lot. It was before I became a Watch Repairer though. Anyway---thanks again. So many people put out videos, but leave out important steps. You didn't.

Thanks for watching and the kind words. My videos are typically longer, but that's because I try to provide all the steps and details, which a niche audience appreciates. I have a series of video on using decals and a laser printer starting with this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ntN1rdyYqZzHgoE.html . I haven't done it with the inkjet printers, but there is a decal paper for that. The person who I have cut stuff uses a YVO4 laser, but if I was to get one myself I'd invest in a MOPA as it has quite a flexible footprint, including color variety. A lot of makers have some sort of Fiber laser.

where can I make such a small logo (what did you put at the end)? I also need letters that are small to stick on, do you know who does it? I can't find a company that prints these little things :( A great tutorial

Well done. One question about the logo: I've tried with stick wallpaper. Is that what you're using or how can I make a logo and paste it to the dial? Thanks in advance
@WatchComplications
@WatchComplications 5 жыл бұрын
The logos are laser cut out of metal with adhesive on the back. In some cases I apply as-is, and in some cases I also clearcoat the entire dial which also serves as additional adhesive, but that depends on the design. The company I get those through is EgoLogo.

Nice series of videos. Is the logo from EgoLogo? Maybe next time in the pad printing design a small dot for the logo placing. In design phase easier to mark exact.

Thanks! And yes, the logo is from EgoLogo. I've had good luck with them so far. Interesting idea about the dot for logo placement, though it would have to be part of the etching design and quite small so it wouldn't be seen after logo placement. I do have a plate etching of my logo also so I can do printed logos as opposed to applied logos when I want.

@@WatchComplications if you added the logo onto the print of the dial and then it would be easier to apply the logo and markers over top of the pad printed images , would make application a lot easier Great job on this series and your watch designs.!!

@@jonnybreakz Hello and thanks for watching! I do have the logo etched on plates separately, and sometimes with the design, it just depends. The last one I built the customer wanted the logo a different color than the markers, so that means a separate etching and printing. Personally, I like doing applied logos after the rest of the printing, but that's me.

Kinda throwing the one off custom built watch term around pretty liberally . You pad printed a watch dial and assembled off the shelf parts lol . We used to pay guys 14 bucks an hour to screen print 50,000 dollar Mc2kw power amps ... didn't make them amp builders ..

c'mon really?...I don't run a manufacturing facility, I'm a one person gig. I'm not doing screen printing. What I am doing is drafting etchings, cutting etchings, setting and using a manual pad printer, sourcing parts (not as easy as it sounds), and yes even creating custom parts like spacers, movement holders, custom hands, etc. When all put together is not as simple as it sounds and takes way more tools than one would imagine. I guess you don't know until you do it all yourself. Using lasers, water jets, 3d printers, manual pads, dial designs, etc isn't being a builder or creator? I'd say take a look at across my side at a variety of sorts of projects I do.
