So i'm a professional machine designer and as a hobby I build forges. So far i'm at 6 minutes of the video and hate to say I think you've gone off the deep end. :) Regardless it's fun to watch. hahahaha. All you need is a single piece of angle iron mounted across the top of both openings. You then slide the firebricks to the side with your tongs to open or close. Keep it simple and you'll be happy over the long run. You've got some serious long term issues with your design. :) I love your creativity!

If it's not too late. I would mount all the motor and electrical at the bottom and run a chain and pulley gear to raise the doors. Would keep the weight and center of gravity lower on the whole forge and keep the electrical in a cooler temperature area and shield it from the rising heat. Pretty awesome stuff! 8^)

Hey Alec, making forge doors, great project. I'm an electrical engineering 3rd year student, I would suggest putting the control unit below the forge and a chain drive for most of the system, you could use a wire for part of it, the coding should be pretty simple, but I think you might need a PWM to drive your sevo's and a simple button function (which should incorporate de-bounce)

I like the pivoting door idea. Use a pedal and forge a ratchet gear or stepping gear with stops/ledges that will hold the door open at any position, and a release for raising or lowering without engaging the stops. Would also work with a strait up and down door. All using a chain type system. All mechanical. What happens when the power goes down? Nothing ! I can still operate the forge without any deconstruction.

@trythinking6676
@trythinking6676 4 жыл бұрын
My mind is weird. I saw a foot petal that pulled a wheel that had a steel cord around it that went though two pulleys and pulled the door to the sides. Spring loaded so they’d shut when your foot was off them. Probably not explaining it right.
@doctor_b2802

Alec isn't one to avoid hassle. Particularly when that hassle involves learning new things. Plus a two hour build means we don't get a glorious 67 part series.

@@trythinking6676 Clever idea but I think the weight of the doors would be enough to close. Maybe a push to the side of the pedal to engage some stop positions.

@David. I’m not explaining what I can see in my head. Better with conceptual ideas and sketching them than explaining it in words.
@thedrakenangel
@thedrakenangel 4 жыл бұрын
@@trythinking6676 it is simple. make a foot peddle. use a simple lever and fulcrum to lift the door. put a linkage between the back of the lever and the front of the foot peddle. otherwise the linear actuator. the steppers that he ordered are for light weight thinks and may not lift as fast as he is thinking. he may even burn them out with the load.
