The making of a small glass tube begins with the pulling of molten glass to form a tube. The tube is then reheated with a torch, the end is closed, and air is blown to create a small bubble. Learn more in The Techniques of Renaissance Venetian Glassworking by William Gudenrath renvenetian.cmog.org/chapter/e...
The Venetian glass industry enjoyed a golden age during the Renaissance. By the early 1500s, the wonders of Venetian glass were well known throughout western Europe. Not well known, however, was how these objects were made. Until now. The result of 30+ years of research by William Gudenrath, The Techniques of Renaissance Venetian Glassworking - renvenetian.cmog.org - presents 35 complete reconstructions of Venetian glassmaking techniques through detailed 360˚ photography and high-definition video.

yeah I've seen it done but they usually use a butane torch.. lol. . no bic is gonna do that especially in a alley which can feel like a breeze way on a pretty windless day.. it's enuff of a issue to light a cig if there is a slight persistent wind .. let alone trying to roll the glass while holding a lighter. lol.. my roommate had a thing about making them all the time. of course we all know what they are used for.. but he would also blow pipes for smoking bud too ! which is alot harder because tye stem has to be narrow enuff so you don't suck the weed down your throat when u hit it unless u use a screen but you didn't need one with his. he would also use different color glass hot enuff to layer the different colors into layers so it looks like a marble. the guy had some real talent. it's sad because he was a really good guy .. he just had a problem.. but he didn't let it define him or change him so he was a functioning addict or user.. finally got clean after years of use because he found out that his girlfriend was pregnant and they had tried to get pregnant for almost 7 years or something .. and when he did he started working at a smoke shop and the owner found out he could make some of the dopest pipes or glass pieces as they call it .. lol... and allowed him to sell them in his shop and didn't want a cut at all and he saved for about 4 years or so and was on his way to a bank to have 2nd interview for a loan and his boss had gave him permission to put him down as a reference at the bank because the boss banked there as well and said if it came down to it he would consign to help him get the loan if he wasn't able to do so on his own. on the way to the bank at 8am or so he was hit by a drunk driver and was killed .. Deja' Vudo. I believe that is the 3rd or 4th! Part 2 focuses on using your newly found skills, like quitting your day job, "or some do the opposite and pick up 2 extra shifts" Part two includes how to ask people to borrow moneyz, how to find hookers using key words. And touches base on a few misconceptions and stereotypes about folks who Engineer glass tubes with a bubble and a pin hole for decorative purposes. Such as but not limited to: don't let the old lady find out what im doing. Not because ill get in trouble, but because my budget will quadruple and i cant afford that duh. Also the if she "smokes" she "sucks", and the age old saying "you can tell alot about a man by the size of his jerry" very important information to be obtained by an entrepreneur looking for a change of lifestyle and searching for those key bullet points that'll surely guide them towards that successful dream that all others in the specific trade had spoken about. I suggest all the videos be watched and studied rigorously so that you get that "Life" you worked so hard for.

What is the difference between "glass blowing" and "lamp working"? I saw them both on Wikipedia, but I don't really understand how they're different.
@corningmuseumofglass
@corningmuseumofglass 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Richie, we checked in with our properties of glass programs supervisor Eric Goldschmidt and he says: "The biggest difference between “glassblowing” and “lampworking” is the heat source. Lampworking could be defined as a process in which a focused flame is used to soften glass for shaping. Glassblowing typically refers to a process in which molten glass is prepared in a furnace for manipulation. Glassblowing is often used as a general term, and lampworking is often seen as a smaller subset of this craft. Lampworkers typically start their process from pre-formed rods and tubes of glass. Glassblowers typically start their process from a furnace filled with molten glass. In either process, forms may be made hollow or solid. " Thanks for watching!

Noooo You didnt tell us how to remedy the pin hole. I hate when that happens and its so hard to close up after the bulbs blown. Ive tried a few methods but the results never look good. I find the easiest way is to either start again or heat up another piece of glass to melting point at the same time and touch the two together at the side of the pinhole until it sticks and cover the hole like that.....but Im a hack so illd like to know a better method if there is one. Ive even tried dabbing the red hot bulb at the pinhole into crushed glass and reheating.

How tf is he heating up the glass with out it burning his fingers does glass not distribute heat or am I missing something?

It does not distribute heat very far from the flame, I blow glass and you can hold your tube/punti like a few inches from the flame, you’ll feel the heat for sure but won’t get a burn

definitely not going to work with borosilicate unless that is an oxy fuel bunsen burner you'll never get the glass hot enough to easily blow a bubble on the end out of the flame unless the wall thickness of your tubing is very thin, in which case the resulting spherical shape on the end will be even thinner and practically useless as the thin profile will easily break when subjected to any stress, heating variance, or impact

Not true. I use a bernzomatic ts8000 and i can blow some pretty thick glass. Even the colored tubes that are much harder. Just gotta have some patience, and maybe a blow tube.

You can also use Mapp gas with Boro, not just oxy/propane.

Am I the only one watching this cause I need to know how make some glass test tubes and beakers for science? They are so expensive and I'd like to make it from recycled glass I already have!

Thats actually good money if u have a lab locally that requires custom glassware, i would suggest only soliciting labs associated and located with academic facilities because the other labs seeking your services might not be the kind of clientele your gonna wanna foster a business partnership with lol

Laboratory glassware is made from a special kind of glass that is more resistant to thermal changes. Use some recycled glass and it might explode on you.
