I've been wanting to do this for years. Have all the pieces in the shed to make a car jack press, but just never got round to it. Your brilliant video has just inspired me to get everything ready for this years apple harvest. I am lucky enough to live near an orchard. Well, kind of an orchard haha. Will be using your video as the reference. Good work mate.

Haha thank you Mark, get those apples picked and use a juicer if you haven't got the press. If you go down that route, try to get rid of the foam/clag before adding the yeast etc which is caused by juicing ;)

Just made 10 litres your way, came out very clear, I used baking yeast and it went mental for two days. Left it two weeks under the kitchen table and just syphoned it into two demi johns. One is crystal clear, second slightly cloudy. Made another batch without pectolase and campden tablets and its very cloudy and very yeasty after nearly 4 weeks

Hi, another first time brewer here and this video is fantastic guide, thanks. I've been doing a test run with shop bought apple juice (before attempting with my own tree apples) which has just finished 1st fermentation. The hydrometer readings are all good and as they should be and I'm getting ready to syphon to second container. But the taste, besides being bland from using shop apple juice, isn't very sweet. Should I add sugar to the second container or only during bottling ?

Your sparkling cider looks great but I don't use campden; I'd rather hot pasteurize the sweet juice. I find this tends to coagulate and floc the solids, and thus promotes settling within the must. I'll try pectolase in a chemically sterilized batch too, next time, to see if the result tastes different. Good job!

Hi, thanks for the really clear video, i am going to attempt to make my first batch of cider this week and have researched many videos and websites and there are so many ways you can do it. I feel most confident with the way you have shown it as you can see the end result. Quick question, would you use 2 teaspoons of yeast, pectolase and yeast nutrient if you had 20l of juice or does it not really matter? Thanks again.

Very useful video. Well made. I normally make wine but looks like process very similar. Just one question - I wonder if adding the campden tablet at the same time as the pectolase might weaken the effects of the pectolase - after all the latter is an enzyme and might be sensitive to SO2? Anyway seems to have worked for you but I might put the campden tablet on day 1 and give it 24 hrs to gas off before adding either yeast or pectolase.

Great vid. Sir. Making my 1st ever batch from tree in yard. 1 question. The fresh juice was delicious. I added the Campden tablets and waited 24hrs before adding nutrient and yeast. The juice had a strange after-taste after the Campden tablets and 24hrs. I sanitized everything, and Spec. Grav. Pre-Pitch was 1.51. Wondering if I did something wrong w. the Campden or vessels? Is it normal for juice to change flavor after Campden and 24hrs in fridge? Cheers. - John.
