I was inspired by your Mogami diy speaker cable video to make my own speaker cables to replace Audioquest Rocket 88 cables. I realized i couldn't afford the Mogami at $5 a ft. and had heard good things about the Canare 4S11. I believe it was only $1.49 a ft. I followed your instructions, and they turned out great. Big sound improvement over the Audioquest cables I paid $350 for. Thanks!

I made a 3.5m pair of cables for the front speakers in my home cinema system over the weekend using Canare 4S11 following this guide. The new cables replaced some relatively cheap bi-amp cables I'd had for several years so I made them up with 4 banana plugs at each end. The difference in sound quality is amazing - it's the closest I've heard to hifi sound from an AV amp and the cables aren't even run in yet. I'll definitely be making up a couple of sets of RCA cables using info from your other guides, so thanks!

I received the Canare cables a guy built for me. I’m so happy I can’t tell you. I decided to compliment my new cables with the same jumper cables linking my binding posts. I really wasn’t sure my vintage mid fi system was capable. I was considering upgrading my system, not any more! So much more sonic joy it’s unbelievable. The Canare 4s11 have blown me away. VERY Happy.

Good morning, I just wanted to check in and say thanks for all the information and inspiration: I made these cables for my VERY beginner hifi setup(ProJect Debut Carbon Evo turntable into a Fosi Audio Phono Box X2 preamp, Integra DTR 30.5 avr & Integra ADM 2.1 amp running Klipsch 4.5 towers) and was stunned at the improvement...plus they look fantastic. The only thing I did differently was wear gloves when handling the bare conductors to keep skin oils off the copper. I'll be making power cables next.

Hey man. I just want to thank you for your valuable advices. I made the Canare version of speaker cables after seeing this video. I am overwhelmed of the improvement. Hands down one of the biggest upgrades i have ever made. I run Focal Aria 948 with them. (Rega Planar+AT VM740ML,REGA MM MK3, Primaluna Prologue Premium Preamp and Ayon Audio 300b with s32b valves). I had QED XT40 till now( i wasnt a "cable believer"). The new cabels really transfomed the sound. I have now more of everything. The sound is really crisp, more revealing with exetremly tight deep low end. It is crazy that a cable swap can do this. Thank you again and i wish you all the good!

Hi. I just bought Mogami 3104 and Canari 4S11 cables from a company called Markertek , they sell in bulk 18' and 20' respectively shipping was very fast, the only thing was the mogami diameter seemed to be not as big as what you show.. I could be wrong.. I paid total $149 free shipping..The most I've spent on "good cables" was about $400

@@gavriushka If you decide to do these cables you would need to connect together red & pink and white & off-white wires. Not the way shown in this video. That's wrong way of doing it. Just read Wikipedia what is a Star-Quad cable connection.
@gavriushka
@gavriushka 3 жыл бұрын
@@IliyaOsnovikov in this case it doesn’t matter, as it’s not an electronic cable. Either of those specific conductors are identical to each other. So it doesn’t matter which ones you put together, as long as one end matches the other. Color is there just for your own reference and so you don’t accidentally reverse polarities on one end vs the other. StarQuad reference in this case means it’s twisted inside in a star pattern, and quad means 4 conductors.
@IliyaOsnovikov
@IliyaOsnovikov 3 жыл бұрын
@@gavriushka Why doesn't it matter? The whole idea of the Star-Quad configuration means the connection together of the opposite ends of that "star" pattern in a cable. That creates a symmetry of magnetic fields that helps reducing cable's electromagnetic noise emission and also improves electromagnetic noise rejection. Otherwise the Star-Quad reference is just meaningless. Sure, that configuration is more beneficial for some low level signal cables like microphone cables. But it has some merrits for speaker cables as well.

Your first video inspired me to go on a cable build, I originally had Mogami 3104s that I bought from a company that builds and sells them. I decided to give 4S11s a try instead. The Canares felt a bit more well rounded, bass was more defined, but I did find them to be a little more closed in and lacking that sparkle that the 3104s had. The major drawback with the 3104s, something that you've mentioned is the bass. The bass was real boomy and I found myself going back to the Canares for that reason. I read/heard some interesting information on the mogami 3103s as being more defined in bass but still having the same sonic signature as the 3104s. It didn't make any sense to me since it's the same cable as the 3104s just 50% less of it. Sure enough, using the same terminations as the Canares, I ran them with my system and the bass boominess was gone. The bass and overall presentation was like the Canares but more extended - it seemed like a sweet spot between the 4S11s and 3104s. I would encourage you to try them out, you might be surprised by the result.

Well In my system 3103 (12 awg)the bass is tight that I can feel in the chest mids are ok but the highs are bright and forward maybe my speakers ( b&w from 1998) and not the cables. Im using canare 4s8 (13 awg) less bass better mids than 3103 but highs roll off. Next i ll try 4s11 (11 awg) coming on Friday . Another try could be the coaxial Mogami 3082 this is almost 14 awg

@@luislunacortez1929 The 4S11s may be a good fit for your B&Ws, I had a pair prior to going with dynaudio excite x18s. I do regret not trying out the 4S11s with the B&Ws while I had them as the speakers to my ears had fatiguing/bright moments when paired with the 3104s. The x18s are quite neutral but I did find that the 4S11s took away the sparkle and made the presentation sound a bit narrow and dull. After struggling to tame brightness with the B&Ws I didn't expect to missing the top end extension, but fortunately with the x18s and 3103s I'm getting the best of both worlds. Good luck!

How can I honestly trust his reviews on speakers/amps, etc anything in his home audio, even the sound sample at the end of these videos, if his wiring is off and he knows it's off but doesn't think it matters. Congrats on another great video. Just wondering why no one has mentioned the Canare 4S11 and it’s much better PE insulation around the conductors themselves (which add to a better sound) with PVC as the outer jacket. The Mogami cables have PVC as insulation on the wire and also the outer jacket which is a lower grade speaker cable for that matter. It’s all about the insulation around the speaker, conductors themselves.

One thing I keep thinking about- how would the screw-on banana plug collars add resistance to the cable? It doesn't make sense but I'm certainly open to the fact that I'm totally missing something

Great video. Hint: you could sand the wire part that go inside (400 sanding paper) before mounting into the banana plugs. This would help unleash the copper pure properties. You should wear gloves to avoid adding skin material to the copper. Skin material can damage the copper over time. Installing cables is the most critical part of the cable assembly.

I was wondering is soldering better than those screw down terminals? I would think that the high heat from soldering could possibly damage the copper cable so maybe the terminals would be better.

Raw is in theory best but you can short out your amp if you cross wires...... I don't mind with my gear. But if you have expensive gear.....Probably best to keep those connections clean as you can.

Maybe it's been covered, but have you noticed a burn-in time for these Canare's? I just put together a 2nd system (which was the same as my original 1st tube hybrid system) and I remember it as a kind of a tubey sound back then. 20+ yrs later, I've revisited that system with the Canare 4S11. I was surprised to not be hearing the tubiness that I remembered (now I'm also using better interconnects), but with the new Canare's, initially, I'm hearing a much wider soundstage. I've read of a 200 - 400 hr burn-in for these to really sing. In your experience, are there ranges of frequancies that improve with burn-in? Mogami vs Canare, dependent on or favor SS over tube? Good Work~
