Rose petals are edible and you could use those in cakes and tarts. Would love to see the results if you do! Also, the almond oild infused with the rose petals is a very good makeup remover.

In France, there is a dessert called "soupe de fraises" (aka strawberry soup), which is made of fresh strawberries, white wine and sugar, and is wonderfully enhanced by finely chopped Damas rose petals... Dreamy stuff ;)

I love dying my hand spun yarns with alkanet! But my color results were usually more of a lavender blue. I never thought about it being a pinker shade when prepared as an oil infusion. Thank you so much for posting this!

takes me back 60 years to my first work as a 10 yr old with flower petal oils. Nowadays I use this technique most impotantly with fresh chopped Elder leaves solar infused in rape or almond oil, both of whom penetrate the skin better than olive, to use as a healing oil for wounds but also as a face and body oil after a bath on heavy gardening days. Meadowsweet and broomflower is nicely hypnotic but I save mine for wine.

How very beautiful. Fixed oils have different shelf lives, up to a year for almond oil before it begins to oxidise (and eventually goes rancid) and less for other oils. You could mix the left over oily rose petals with salt for a body scrub.

I love making herbal infused oils. I would typically use a mortar and pestle to release the oils from the plant first, and then add the oil. Thank you for sharing your video.

Alkanet root is good for wounds (particularly burns) as it reduces inflammation, protects against infection, and has a cooling effect on the skin, so you may want to pop some in the refrigerator in case you have a cooking mishap or stay a bit too long in the sun! 💖🌞🔥 Lavender infused oil is another good treatment for minor burns, but I mostly use it on insect bites as I have a tendency to scratch them when I'm sleeping so the antiseptic properties keep me from making it worse, plus it really does help diminish the itch. Another way I've used it is to sooth eczema, though I'd be hesitant to use olive or coconut oil on such an irritation. Jojoba oil is my preference in that use but sweet almond works as well, especially if my skin is particularly dry. I very much hope you'll share with us how you end up using them!

This is fabulous. Thank you so much for adding the rose petals to my to-do list. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown

How long will the infused oils keep generally?
@stanceymackenzie
@stanceymackenzie 2 жыл бұрын
I don't actually know how long they keep they are stored in air tight jars but once opened and used in products they will be more exposed to air and bacteria, I have no allergies and am fairly pragmatic that if something smells ok I will use it, but I understand everybody's skin and tolerances are different

Hi Constance! I tried following your process for drying the petals from my garden roses but very soon after I put them in a jar to store before putting in oil, the lovely rose smell changes to an unpleasant earthy/acrid smell. Any advice on how i could fix this please? When the petals are dry they smell lovely, it’s only if I put them in a (clean) jar that the smell changes. I’ve tried different jars but the result is the same 😩 xx
@stanceymackenzie
@stanceymackenzie 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, I have found that unless my rose petals are so dry that there is no moisture is left in them at all they can still rot in a jar that is completely sealed and air tight. its best to keep them in a jar with the lid off or cloth stretched over them like a cheese cloth so they can still breath until you poor the oil on them. I try to poor the oil on as soon as possible. You can keep the rose petals in an unsealed jar for years but the smell will eventually dissipate so it is best to make the oil shortly after the rose petals are fully dry, which usually takes 24-48 hours in the sun or a very hot dry place. Hope that helps.

@catzkeet4860
@catzkeet4860 3 жыл бұрын
Alkanet is a dye plant. Alcanna tinctoria also known as dyers bugloss. The root is used to create a red/pink/purplish dye. Its related to borage and has blue borage like flowers and has been used as a dyers plant and to colour cosmetics for centuries.
