Not Jay bringing me to tears speaking to “weight goal pants” 😭 I used to keep clothes like that to “motivate me” to get back to my pre pregnancy body and WOOF it was beyond demoralizing until I accepted that my body had changed and I didn’t need to reject the body that brought two little hoomans into the world. Tbh Nimrod/Bastion should be the main antagonist of any X-men series. The machines that humanity pours all their hatred into turns against humanity (since that’s where mutants come from). Jean becoming the Phoenix is important for Jean but not really for the X-Men. And it wasn’t presented as a cosmic force.

I've been saying that this needs a rewrite to fix all the flaws, like cutting out the Phoenix saga for another movie and bringing in Gambit here instead of in the prequels. Can you imagine if Rogue had met Gambit during her relationship problems with Bobby? This could've built up her confidence, and thus, the alternate ending with Rogue refusing the cure would've been so much better instead of doing it for the boy who dumped her for Kitty Pryde. The Cure plot was already good enough, but yeah, it'd be awesome to see the Sentinels at the time, rather than just a cameo in the Danger Room.

Unpopular opinion, but I actually enjoyed this movie a great deal when it came out. True, it didn't live up to the standard set by X2, but it was still a pretty good time at the cinema for me and my brother 😊

Lashy as Angel in the backdrop is too perfect, his journey to the vengeful revenant Arch Angel is absolutely his brand…I could see him as Cyclops too actually. I also appreciate the subtle Jay beast sculking in the back. If I were doing a fix for this movie, since they have a flash-back to Gene’s childhood, I would just show that as a kid when her mutant powers first manifested, the phoenix force comes to earth and fuses with her than and there. And since no one knows what the phoenix is, they assume it was a solar flair or something, so gene is blamed with everyone assuming it was her powers that destroyed the town. So this preserves the water scene from the last movie, and Charles & Magneto adopting her (it’s a light retcon, but it works). For the overarching plot though, It needs to be Centinals & The Mastermold, with a cure subplot that we build towards. Like, the cure should be something that is completed in the 3rd act, and the plan is to load it on the centinals and release them to hunt and “fix” the mutants. And I think it means that we need to have a version of The Morlock Massacre in this. Rogues journey in this needs to be her accepting herself and stepping into her own power. She needs to take authority over her body rather than continue fearing what her powers can do. We’re also introing Gambit in this (I would cast Heath Ledger as Gambit, he would have been the perfect choice at the time). I want rogue to have a moment in this, where she absorbs everyone’s powers, becomes The Rogue Angel and at the end of the film she now permanently has Super Strength & Flight like in the animated series. Iceman & Rogue are broken up before the movie even starts, they’re still friends, but their paths have already lead them away from each other in a healthy way. Genes Phoenix powers should be present, but just like in the comics, this is the start of the slow burn toward her becoming The Dark Phoenix. That should be its own movie later (like in an X-Men 4, when Apocalypse could show up and tries to tame her as one of his horsemen, but she turns on him at the end). I also really love Alcatraz as a set piece, because it becomes a mutant embassy in the comics, so that could be what it is at the end of this.

They could have explored the "rouge" storyline angle a lot more than they did, and she felt like an afterthought in the movie, even though that concept was more intriguing. The scene where Angel grabs his father before he is pushed off a building by mutants though, I liked it. Overall, it felt like watching a popcorn flick than being actually engaged the whole way through.

Jean Grey started as the female point of a love triangle (with Cyclops and Angel). However, the best thing about her was being Rachel Sommers' mother.

There were problems with pay and Holly Berry wanted more of a main role in the script which probably caused issues. The script started changing to cut out characters for push Storm and Wolverine.

Rogue does rule. Most of the X-men do. Great characters. Love that idea of Rogue getting a trilogy. Have it end where she permanently absorbs some who have power like Ms Marvel as well as her memories and she goes back to X-men to help her sort things out.

Also, they should fix the 1996 made for TV movie, Generation X. The first ever cinematic X-Men property. 😅

I feel like if they had a grand plan for X-men movies ( which they didn’t) this version of X3 with the sentinels could easily go into days of future past. X3 ends with the heroes thinking they won but in fact they lost. Then the momentum of that stops with first class and then we pick right back up with them in days if future past seeing that the sentinels won. It also cleans up the mess of different timelines. This is all with hindsight obviously but still fun to think about what could have been

Bryan Singer has his issues, but at the time, it probably would've been best for the studio to wait for his schedule (as well as James Marsden's) to free up from "Superman Returns" to let him tell this story right... or at least better. Brett Ratner has never been the strongest director (i still like his "Rush Hour" films), so I never felt he was the right guy to take on the X-Men on the big-screen. Never really thought about it, but it's interesting to look bak and see that the two directors for the original 3 X-Men movies, Bryan Singer & Brett Ratner, have both now been accused of sexual assault and harassment as years have passed...

I really don't see any problems with this film. Idk what people were expecting at that time.
