Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZfaq!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

The Can is from Mebius & Drescher/Mebius & Drescher Co. The company was around since the 1870s with the Drescher added circa 1895. This was probably "Fairy" brand coffee, which was registered by the Patent Office December 27,1923, and in July 1924. Mebius & Drescher Co. were wholesale grocers in Sacramento lcoated at Front and K street. The warehouse burned 1938 and the company was apparently not using it at that time. However H.B. Drescher appears to be active until 1944 in civic affairs and his affiliation was with this company.

Gly… your color blind was really kicking in when you first started this explore at the first portal you went into and down that slope to wood wall…the blue azurite / copper oxide was screaming on the video all over the place. Glad you saw it deep in to the mine but it was everywhere, even stacked in the gobbling walls. Great explore part one !!! That wood work and construction was wonderful to see. @@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces I know you don't want to disturb these places. Leave it as you found it. The next guy won't. These arent graves. Bring these artifacts back to the surface. Find good homes for them. You care about the history. The next guy won't care. Nobody enjoys something buried under rubble when the mine finally collapses. Once it's gone and buried... it's lost forever... I grew up near Cherry, Illinois. Hundred years ago the coal mone there had a fire and a lot of men died. To put it out they pumped water in. With men still alive inside. I get it there is reason to not disturb that mine. Personally I think an excavation and recovery is more appropriate than leaving the men there. Same with what you find. Bring it up. Donate it. Sell it to fund more exploring. Like I said, I'd rather someone who lives and loves history find good homes to display these awesome pieces of history. Salvage the Titanic IMHO... It's rusting to nothing and once it's gone... tracks of history are gone forever.

I find your videos fascinating I really do. I'm just a middle aged lady from North Yorkshire, England. I actually live in an old ironstone mining village. I have been a carer for the elderly here and I've had a few conversations with some of the old miners. One of the guys he had dementia, he was pretty far along with it, I used to engage with him and talk about his life when he was young and he told me he went to work in the mines at 15 years old. I have to be honest, he didn't like it, said it was dark when he went in, dark all day in the mine and dark when he came out, he rarely saw daylight. He said it was also cold and damp, bearing in mind this is Northern England. He got out of mining and into farming instead haha! He was a lovely guy, I always enjoy listening to the elders and their stories. I have so much respect for them and they're just so interesting you know. Anyway, stay safe, I do worry sometimes, I'm like ooohhhh that looks dangerous!

So glad you found one to get you teeth into. Some of the recent mines you've been to are lacking in character. But it looks like this one is worth the wait. I have memory issues, that go back about 13 years, but just the other day I was reminded of a British mine explore, in the middle of nowhere. It was no more than a hole in the ground until the guys entered it. Then it spread out into a few low tunnels. The entire thing was black, no pale coloured rock, no obvious metals being chased after, just pitch black. The wet in the place made the walls shiny, and the low tunnels were all flooded with 4 to 6 inches of water. They thought this mine dated back to the 1500s, and the crude workmanship on the walls would back that up. Just the 2 men went n the place, and the noise of their progress was a constant as they walked at a stoop through the water that came just past their ankles. They must have known where to find this mine as the entrance, a hole that anyone could fall into, was only about 30 inches across, and deep in the under growth of a wooded area. would be almost impossible to find by chance. Around a half hour into the adventure, one of them called a halt and for quiet. Moments later, the mic picked up the sound of someone splashing through the wate at a run, and heading right for them in this long narrow tunnel. Yet the water showed no sign of being disturbed by anyone other than out explorers. Just as soon as the noise started, it stopped, and the air became icy cold and the breath from th guys could now be seen clearly, whereas not a hint of steam from them before. That one made the hair stand up on the back of my neck for real Other than that time with Scott and Randy, have you ever had an experience than made you blood rn cold?

I believe you found one that will make up a number of amazing videos. I visited some mines in 29 Palms at the Marine Corps base in the 80s that had newspapers from the late 30s early 40s when the mines were closed because of the war. There was an office in the mine with a chalkboard with names of workers who had left for the war or were drafted, that place was a true time capsule of a time an moment of history. Thank you Gly for your hard work bringing me along, that was truly an amazing mine and I just love the wood workings there, the carpenter really knew his craft. See you next week, Old Kenny.

There must have been a lumberyard full of wood in this mine. Great craftsmanship putting this together. Great video, Gly! ❤

Yep just a tiny hole in the mountain and wow that was epic. C ya next week. By the size of the waste rock that mine is beyond huge. Ludicrous speed, and go.

Heya Gly! I have a joke for you......."What is a miner's favorite game?"................"Chutes and Ladders!" I know its baaad. LOL! Anyhoo great vid. This is one of the best mines yet, that you've found in recent months, and I have been chomping at the bit for new epic content. You sure delivered this time! I can't wait to see more of this awesome find. And yes, your drone work is amazing. I too love the grand open spaces and gorgeous desert vistas of the American west. I live in Utah, so I guess I am a little biased when it comes to the amazing geology that your region and mine, have to offer. LOL! Speaking of Utah, have you been to, or will you ever come to explore the thousands of mines we have strewn all over this state?😁

“Gly”: Thanks! Utah does have allot of mines but the state of Utah has been very active when it comes to mine closure. Many of the larger mines in Utah have been bat barred or foamed shut.

Awesome drone footage, So, where are we today, A Star wars fan. Flys like Luke Skywalker! That stope reveals a nice drift with and winze. Looks like they were there yesterday. This mine may have lower levels, access through the stopes? Gly is in the candy shop, he found this goody. Skip cart, sweet! Nice find. That is a win / win for you Gly. Try next time to go to the lower levels.

“Gly”: Good job at connecting the dots. Yes, I’m a Star Wars fan and flying that stope was like Luke Skywalker in the canyon Death Star scene.
