Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZfaq!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...

The fawn is actually a coyote, it's got whiskers, paws and claws if you look close. It looks like a mineral collector has been in there judging by the little piles of blue minerals laid in patches toward the back of the mine.

Hey Gly, the lack of graffiti may indicate a serious and stern Forman. So the normal happy go lucky feeling isn’t in this mine. It was run strictly as a business and not a daycare for misfit miners. The long gone Forman may have left a strong imprint on the mine. If you say you “feel” the mine…. You must believe in something, if not paranormal… we all get the goosebumps and feels. It’s in our DNA. Safe exploring my friend.

My thoughts on the “strictly business” foreman were the same, that and the possible fact that these miners and crews were itinerant going from one mine to another or even job to job which may not have been mining. If I estimate this may have been around the time when some of the major hydroelectric plants were being constructed out west.

It’s not the “ Hoe” you’ve been hanging out lately with that’s got bucket all worked up & worried about , it’s that Toilet seat you bought . He’s probably clenched up tighter than a “ Bull’s ass during fly season” as my Buddy big Al is fond of saying…… 😉😆. That fly-over with the drone at the beginning of this one sure shows the scope & magnitude of what those “ Mole-men” old miners were capable of doing back in the day . I’m STILL amazed at just how much lumber & raw materials they had to haul in from who knows how far away & then haul underground and set up inside , and at how well a lot has held up for decades & a century in some cases. Really shows their craftsmanship. Since you are still in Nevada & since now I’m wondering, have you ever thought about possibly doing an episode or adventure up at the Comstock mines in Virginia city area?? We have visited the town more than a few times & I always wanted a more in -depth look at all those underground workings other than the one guided mine tour we took once. The square-set timbering used underground over there was simply amazing from what we saw that trip . Thanks again Buddy Gly for all you go look at and share with us . Be safe & C-ya next time 😎👍

That drone work sure saves you some walking time. Don't you @ 21:23, get alittle tired of the crawling & wiggling, much less the walking of the hills? (I sure don't have that stamina anymore). But, you always seem so upbeat, non the less. Lots of "Blues", diffinetly telling of a Copper search. Going out and your "panning" of the area w/the drone, thru the credits...look! at the erosion from water and snow melt over decades! Quite the challenging area for hiking thru or the miners getting to. Thank you for the" scenes of the West" as I live in lots of "greens" & trees in Wisc.

That little bottle you found with the liquid in it is probably HCL. Geologists and mineral collectors use it to test for limestone and other carbonates. I have a couple just like it. Also, it looks as if mineral collectors have been in there. That crumply paper can be used to pack mineral specimens. That it was there on that small stack of rocks leads me to think that. I have seen that before. I use TP. I don't remember if you got to the mine that is north and slightly west of the Architecture mine? There is a rather green looking dump there. I think it is something I need to see! Like I need more mineral specimens. I have a basement full and several display cases scattered about the house already. Which drone do you find most useful? I have looked at the small one you have but it seems a bit shy on battery capacity. Thanks.

A friend who grew up in Bisbee, Az used to go through tailings looking for Bisbee Blue turquoise. Said he would touch it to his tongue and if it felt slick it was worth keeping, if it felt rough he called it leaverite (leave 'er right there). Since then a mining engineer told me that was a great way to poison yourself. I think you are right, and the plastic bottle had a 'scientific' method to identify gemstone quality copper minerals

Oh well, you can't always hit it out of the park Gly! But the last few episodes have been some excellent mines and with all of those stopes all collapsed it was going to be a let down in the small portal. It was great for you to share with us the locations of these mines as they are in relation to each other. That was really cool to see and that alone was really cool to see that these mines were all taking part of all the same ore seam as it stretches across the land, that was really cool to see. It is so amazing to me, to see that these seams are out in the open and that all it took was some guys prospecting across the land, looking for ore bodies to start mining operations. and in an era where there were seldom any people in the region. In a state that didn't have one of it's major cities until much later in the forties and fifties indeed Nevada would have been a place with a low population. I love seeing the History of a place through the mines that exist in a region! It would be really cool to see them all in their heyday! Especially the "Thunder Ridge mine!"

Thanks, Gly, couldn’t view this for a couple days, but finally did! Have you noticed (as I think I have) that mines where copper is the primary metal have virtually no miners’ graffiti and artwork compared to gold and silver mines? Any old timers have a reason for this?

And to think a former co-worker I knew in the late 1990s had a side hustle documenting houses for real estate brochures and realtors by using a remote control 35mm camera lofted by a large helium balloon. My oh my how things have changed for our benefit. Thanks Gly for putting all of these professional quality video presentations together.

It's your 6th sense, what I call your 'Self-preservation sense', NEVER ignore it,Trust it 100%,it is never wrong... Restoring a old house 40 years ago, had a sense of uneasyness/ forboding, felt really weird, so took a early tea break, barely 10 minutes later, whole house collasped...

I think you got kinda creeped out by not much signs of the miners. Not much written and death at the entrance. Another good video, thank you!

You ever think about taking a digital recorder down into a mine with you, just asking some questions while rolling it? Specifically a mine with documented fatalities? You might be surprised what you could hear

Noticed the shovel bottom center of screen @8:28 (pause it). I think the shredded paper was leftover padding from the mineral collector who was selecting the best specimens of Chalcanthite (copper sulfate). He piled up the specimens there and took only the best ones home.
