Instructions for making liquid soap from scratch, including how to dissolve your lye in a brine solution. The brine tutorial is optional - although liquid soap made with brine is thicker, and the paste dissolves more readily, it's perfectly okay to proceed by using plain distilled water instead.
This recipe uses a 3% superfat and does not need to be neutralized.
Any soapmaker should be familiar with the dangers of working with lye and proceed accordingly! Keep meddling children out of the kitchen during your cook and wear protective gear.
With this one-pot method you do not need a crockpot and also save yourself a load or stirring, killing generations of stickblenders - simply cook your paste in the same pot in which you dilute it; there's no danger of scorching your paste, all with minimal effort or babysitting
This tutorial is for good for beginners who have perhaps a batch or two under their belts (or those familiar with making bar soap). Soapmakers who attempt this should familarize themselves with what to do in case of sustaining potentially catastrophic injuries from lye burns.
