It seems Mulan has become a victim of coronavirus while I was working on the doll and premiere of the new Disney film has been rescheduled for later this year... But since I couldn't know it 21 weeks ago when I've started working on this doll, we will turn this Barbie doll into a Mulan anyway today! She is my favorite warrior princess and the new Mulan movie from Disney is coming out very soon, so let's give this doll a complete makeover and turn her into Mulan!

I would love to see you do a Megara doll from Hercules!! She's SO underrated and she's one of the strongest Disney women. Also she has a really unique look, a Monster High doll would be PERFECT for her body! I'd also love to see a male Hercules, I think he is super interesting looking :)

A light note, just so there aren't miles of "angry" comments, but the Chinese outfit (by modern words) is called a "hanfu" not a "Kimono". The first is Chinese and the second is Japanese. They are also tailored slightly differently, though most people won't notice it. It is true, though that Japanese took from the Chinese original clothing to make the kimono. (Because someone is bound to say that too). I hope this heads up helps you.

Thank you for this. I wasn't sure if 'hanfu' was still the term used to refers to men's dress. Do you know the type of hanfu Mulan is wearing? I'm having trouble finding information on it...

@@MyLittleHomie The original was Northern Wei... according to a Glamour youtube video. www.glamour.com/video/watch/would-they-wear-that-fashion-expert-fact-checks-mulan-s-wardrobe If you want to learn more about Hanfu I'd check out: kzfaq.info/love/eNL4atTsw5_NEtQDMytavQ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rciDf8texqidZZc.html Hanfu, though is a more modern term for the clothes the Han people wore. (Note there are more Chinese ethnicities than the Han, though). The one shown in the trailer, I think, is a mix between Northern Wei (for the time she dresses up for marriage) and late Han Dynasty. (With how her skirt wraps... in the same scene). The way she is dressed overall, though in the fighting scenes, save the red for the screen, is more like a man. If you want to learn about kimono, though, Lisa Dalby's Kimono is probably the best book for that. Note that Han clothes later had influence on Korean clothes too (Hanbok in South Korean, and Joseon-ot in North Korean language, also a later-made term for an existing item). (Ming and Joseon clothes look similar). But the way they are tailored is the huge give away. Where the seams sit in even early Joseon compared to Han is the major difference since Korea wasn't as rich in cloth, they tended to switch between the pieces more, so more seams were necessary to do that. Also Koreans did sleeve caps, which Chinese Han did not. I bought a modernized hanfu to take apart, though honestly, it's more like a Three Kingdoms Korean hanbok than it is a historical hanfu... figured out the pattern, and attempted to make it, but then found it extremely trickier than I thought, making me think that if you screw up on a hanfu traditionally, it was a big deal. (I bought the hanfu ironically to figure out Three Kingdoms Hanbok, but later figured out that Historical hanfu aren't like that at all... and what they sell to the public is highly adulterated.)

but hanfu and kimono are like genreic names, right? I mean, if it were japanese the red cloth will be called happi? (I'm not so sure)... so I'm curious, whats is the more technical chinese name for it inside of the hanfu spectrum

Yoonmi Kim thank you. I appreciate it when subscribers can educate other viewers without disrespect. I had never heard of a “handfu” and would love to learn more. I was stationed in S Korea for a couple years and learned a lot of their “pre-invasion” history, but SO much is being lost. Blessings.

@@Mizuli Hanfu, according to the videos, I posted in the comments is the generic name for the clothes, rather than the specific name for each of the items. It was invented as a modern invention (but honestly I'm not clear where and when since my Mandarin is crap). It's better for you to view the Chinese youtuber's explanations of this than it is for me, as a non-culturally Chinese person to try to explain it for them. The names of the clothes changed slightly over time, from what I understand. Kimono is, likewise, a generic name for the clothes as a group (as is hanbok and joseon-ot). I left a reference for kimono in English, too. Though it's done by a white woman (i.e. not own voices) she was an anthropologist that does reference own voices and has large amount of details on matching and dress for Geisha. www.chinastyle.cn/clothing/history/wei.htm (BTW, talks about red--so it's like I suspected). If you're really curious about the clothes, you could ask AvenueX to specifically cover Mulan's clothes and clothing name for Northern Wei, since she's short on topics--a bit since the Chinese drama industry is shut down for now. I would defer to ownvoices on this. However, I'm probably more versed on the specific tailoring and reasons why it was tailored that way, simply because my sources don't sew and I did research into that.

I actually needed to check how does she speaks "Mulan" because first time it sounded pretty normal for me... Then I realised that she just speaks it like each other in Slavic countries and it sounds unusual only for those who aren't used to accenting the pre-last syllabe of each sentence. In Eastern Europe there's also tendence to adding i before some vowels and it's the only thing in her way of saying Mulan that sounded unfamiliar to me... Poppen Atelier sorry for Third person...

I really would like to see Tiana from Princess and the Frog. She's such an admirable hard working girl who actually works for her future and her place. You absolutely NAILED this doll. The eyes are so real and dead on, her shading is not too dark, her armor is amazing! I love these soft, realistic proportion face molds for celebrity look alikes! It's perfectly subtle and very "blank canvas"!

Love these transformations! For the Cho Chang doll, you could transform her into Claudia Kishi from the Babysitters Club! She's a teenager, so the smaller proportions make sense, and with the new Netflix reboot coming, you could make a series of her and the other babysitters! Can't wait to see what you decide on. 😊

So cool! Love it. I love Mulan And Ariel. know that many ask you to make different dolls. But I want to ask to make a doll from the world of the game World of Warcraft. There are a lot of interesting characters with their own unique history. I would be in heaven with happiness!

Your Cho Chang doll looks perfect for Mulan as she is because of her closed hand could hold a sword without a handle! The Made to Move doll is also perfect to turn into Mulan in her fighting moves training too!

This may be my favourite doll you have ever done and I think I have watched nearly all of your videos. I especially love that you bothered to paint the handle of the sword gold even though you were going to wrap it in red thread - it is the little bits of detail you pay attention to that really make your dolls a cut above the rest.

Your work is so beautiful that sometimes they made me cry. Can someone create something that beautiful? I cannot believe!!! The african lion king princess made me cry and the asian princes and the winter unicorn? She was an centaur with wings and naturally mulan made me cry too
