Out of all of the "Jo" dresses I have ever seen in any of the portrayals of Little Women this is my favorite! It encapsulates the character and the time period so perfectly!

Lovely! I love the ribbon work. I'm working on an elliptical skirt myself, but from about 40 years later. The right pattern is hard to find, sometimes. And by sometimes, I mean every time a new dress catches your eye. Beautiful work!

I really like the ribbon detail in this costume! I appreciate that you don't try to do everything by hand just because people did back in the day. Some costubers sorta lose me when they do that. I also am sups jealous of your vacation photos, and your regular day wear dress caught my attention too!

Thanks! I just don’t have the time or desire to do everything by hand, at least not long structural seams that aren’t visible from the outside.

Aaaah, it looks so good! I feel the same way as you about the 1860's...never really appealed to me because of the Civil War. It's nice to see some designs from later in the decade! Also...this is dumb, but I was today years old when I realized one could make one's own ironing board cover 🤣🤯

I am so in love with this dress! It's even more exquisite in person. Like you I wasn't overly familiar with the late 1860's style but now, thanks to you I am dreaming of creating this silhouette. It truly was perfect for Jo. Bravo!!!

I can 100% relate to having to alter sleeves and shoulders on patterns. I have completely strait shoulders, so I have to always add to both the sleeves and the bodice pieces. my mother has one sloped and one strait, so she has to adjust for asymmetry quite often.
@DixieDIY
@DixieDIY Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have the exact reverse problem that I do! Once I learned I often needed to make that adjustment it really upped my sewing skills.

Oh wow, I have sloped shoulders too and am super intrigued by your discussion of sloped shoulders and wrinkly sleeves. I recently made a tailored coat, and while the sleeve caps look reasonably smooth on the hanger, as soon as I wear the coat they're super puckered. I assumed I'd just done a poor job of setting them (which I have certainly been known to do!), and it never occurred to me that it might be a fit issue! I can't wait to try to address this on my next project. Also, the outfit looks amazing! 1860s fashion is also generally not my favourite, but I totally agree that the slightly raised waistline and elongated skirt silhouette is super cute.
@DixieDIY
@DixieDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Have you thought of adding shoulder pads to your coat to adjust for the sloped shoulders? Or would that not work with the style? Once I figured out my shoulder fit problem I noticed it in so many patterns I used.
