Nice work brother. The polish job really makes the skull pop. I'm just starting, but have printed some models I'd like to cast. This video helped me make a decision to try sand casting first before buying a vacuum casting machine and kiln.

Very cool! I have an idea, that would make it pop. If you etched it, so that it was all covered in black, then polished it again, wow, it would look very cool too, because the lines would be very visible!

Thank you so much for the comment. It's interesting you say that because I recently made another video where I covered a ring black. It is a very similar ring to this. You can check it out on this link kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f62kl7Kqztexg5c.htmlsi=I_Fi2DFwzGJLfDBM

@@thatoradebe_trj Yes, very good, but I meant the other way around, so after you etch it, then you run it on the polisher, and the lines and groves are left, leaving very pronounced marks. But that one looks good too!

Thank you for this video, I love seeing your process! Did you cut the wax ring in half to avoid the molten silver cooling before the entire cast is filled? As in, making two separate parts to ensure that the silver fills each mold fully? I really wanna try sand casting myself and this is super helpful!
@thatoradebe_trj
@thatoradebe_trj 2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the comment, it is much appreciated. That is partly the reason for cutting the wax in half. The main reason is because in order to sand cast you need the 2 sand rings to be separated to remove the wax. If I were to make the entire ring and then separate the rings, the mold would break apart due to the shank (the part where your finger goes through) breaking through the sand

Excellent job! I've been polishing pieces with a Dremel and it takes forever and it's difficult. What type of polishing machine did you use? Also, is there a certain "spec" as to the polishing wheel you used? Thanks.
@thatoradebe_trj
@thatoradebe_trj 28 күн бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. The polishing machine is a standard polishing machine which I got at a place called goldsmith and jewellery supplies in Johannesburg, South Africa. I don't know what the brand is. I use a "hard" and a "soft" polishing mop. And I use a compound called "unipol" I hope that helps

@@thatoradebe_trj ok buddy I did ask someone else but they say because more detail and holes it can’t be done But looking at so many different designs now I feel it can be done depending on the person and the way it’s done If I put a curb ring on a steel cylinder tube and print it down on the sand for the actual imprint Then replace the steel cylinder with one made of sand and place that in the print I think this way it will work

@elieser7865 they have software/special wax resin that's used to make intricate designs without having to do it by hand. Which sure is cheating depending on who you ask. But it also helps save your hands and reduces work.

@@TheIncredibleMrTdef not cheating. But can def dictate price/worth of the piece. More sentimental value in hand ones.
