Opendesk.cc is a great place to find furniture designs you can make on your CNC Router. Follow along as we go through the CAD and CAM in Fusion 360 to process OpenDesk dfx files.
We then make a Break Out Table using 4 sheets of Plywood on our CNCRouterParts Pro 4896.

Great video and perfect timing for me: we're just got our new (to us) MultiCam CNC installed, and will be starting to build opendesk furniture for our makerspace in just a couple of days! And this video is a perfect primer for that! Thanks again! I'm very much looking forward to your future videos!

Thanks! and the OpenDesk table is pretty great.. I do 16th century tailoring as another hobby (I might have too many hobbies) and that table worked perfectly for what I got it for (to be my patterning and sewing table)...

Thanks for uploading such a helpful video. It would be really nice of you, if you could answer my 2-3 points. RPM , Cutting speed, feed rate, plunge rate you choose to cut this plywood? and Maching time for this complete table.
@HandsonCNC
@HandsonCNC 5 жыл бұрын
I was running pretty conservative.. I think I was doing about 6mm (1/4") depth of cut at maybe 150ipm and 20000 RPM... As for time, I don't remember exactly.. Maybe 30 or 40 minutes/sheet of plywood. I would probably cut it differently today, 1/2 depth of cut and 250+ ipm.

Thanks for the video Josh, didn't know Open Desk was out there. Quick question: I see you're working in sculpt rather than model mode in fusion. Any particular reason for this?
@HandsonCNC

Ron Buck since everything I am doing is with sketch and extrude it doesn't actually matter. Everything we did works from sketch or model. Great question though! :)

If you email them they will send them to you once they can confirm you are not doing it to resell. They take a week or so respond, so be patient.

Opendesk's Download Page is down. Does anyone have any of the files they can share?

If you are a bit better than the average hobbyest or you dont have a CNC that big, you can still make those by hand. You just have to pay attention and take your time.

John Ware true enough though you would have to be pretty creative cutting the mortises and getting all the dimensions out of the DFX files.

All Opendesk design files will include information on which bit size a design is mastered for. Generally speaking, most designs can be achieved with a 6mm or ¼” cutter and a 45deg chamfer bit. In some cases some cuts are able to be achieved with an 8mm bit in order to speed up the process. It is important to check the drawing to understand what bit is required. They didn’t list angle of v bit but I found this if helpful,

Just found this put it here to show the v bit is usually 45 deg.

May be true now, this video may be a touch out of date.. at the time of recording it, the files were suppose to be mastered for 6mm (with a strong preference to support 1/4" as well) as a convention, but no bit information was provided at that time. I am glad they are being more specific now... :-)

how long does it take to cut this out from your shopbot?
@HandsonCNC
@HandsonCNC 6 жыл бұрын
I ran relatively conservatively so it took about 30 minutes a board * 4 boards... That being said, every CNC is different.. Your going to be cutting 3/4" (ish) plywood and 90% of that is slotting.. So if you know how fast you can slot 3/4" plywood (or say slot 1/4" * 3 for 3 passes) or what not you can figure out what your math will be like..

What about the chairs....?
@HandsonCNC
@HandsonCNC 5 жыл бұрын
Given that we use the table mostly for sewing projects (actually mostly for drawing up the patterns) we actually don't have chairs for it.. Though I have thought about making the Barstools... Plus no chairs keeps the 2 year old off the table... and if she could she would totally climb up thier in a heartbeat..
