I am pretty new to meditation. I first learned about Ajahn Brahm when I went to a Sunday Night Sitting at a local sangha I go to. Unbeknownst to be, he was the guest speaker that night. It was being held in a different room than usual, in this big hall that is normally a used as a Methodist church. I walk in and see him sitting in the front with several other monks. It was intimidating for me. I thought "What is this and Who is this guy? I'm giving him 10 minutes and If I don't like it I'm outta here". Well, I think within about 30 seconds of him speaking he had totally won me over.

What if you have a boss that keeps yelling and telling you that you are useless, #1 stupid, etc.... He does the same to you in front of others and continues to put you down. Eventually, even if you are good at your work and confident, you will loose all confidence and have mental block and no longer able to think or do what you do best and becomes an introvert. We go into downward spiral and deep in depression. How do we manage when situation like this happens?

This reminds me of a couple things Ajahn Brahm has said. First, have pity on this person, because you only have to be with them during work hours, but they have to be with themselves for the rest of their life! Someone that mean on the outside is actually extremely fragile and suffering deep inside. Also I am reminded of a story Ajahn Brahm told of a prison he used to visit. The inmates loved his talks, but they had a problem. The warden of the prison was extremely harsh and rude, more than anyone else in the prison system. So they asked Ajahn Brahm what should they do. Ajahn Brahm suggested that the prisoner who's job it was to bring the warden tea and biscuits each day should do so with the utmost sincere kindness. Using the most polite language, the nicest tone of voice, and the gentlest of body language. After a couple weeks, Ajahn Brahm came back and the prisoner told him, look nothing's changed, he's just as mean as ever. But Ajahn Brahm encouraged him to keep trying. Then a few more weeks went by and on his next visit, the prisoners were in an uproar because for the first time in the history of that prison, when the prisoner brought the warden his tea, he replied with, ''thank you.'' For that man, those two words were a big deal, they were like the first crack in dam. Lastly, I've heard Ajahn Brahm speak about how monks have to be like trash bins that people throw the rubbish of their lives into, but to always remember to be a trash bin with a hole in the bottom. So when they throw their trash at you, it goes right through you and you don't hold on to it. If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend Ajahn Brahm's talk ''the four ways of letting go.'' Hope that helps. May all sentient beings be free of suffering.

my father said to me to be an adult basically means to never complain i thought it was a joke but i guess he is right only kids complain cause its the easiest way for them to solve the problems they have cause the parents help them and solve the problems for them if they start screaming and complaining but for an adult u cant expect someone to solve your problems so all you can do is look at them and then you do something about it or because you are looking at it you realise there is no problem sometimes its just the mind making a problem out of nothing

When I get criticized, my immediate response is not to believe it. I just say that's your opinion. And opinions are like butt holes ... everyone has got one. Now every now and then I make an assessment of something, say my forehand in tennis sucks. Instead of getting down on myself, I work on it to make it better. I keep at it until I feel good about it.

And also I wanna say to you that see my comment right now- if YOU are suffering from deep depression- seek proffesional help because clinical depression can't scientifically be healed and cured from anything other than medicine. So get help and do Buddhism to heal on the inside. I don't want to tell you what to do but I wanna guide you because scientists proof this. Please seek professional help from psychiatrist and doctors.. heal on the inside with Buddhism ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
