Making Patterns in Glaze? Lets try using tape to mask pottery glaze application

Күн бұрынCan you use tape to mask off areas for glaze application? That's what I try in this video. I explore applying tape to pots with a base layer of glaze as well as a raw bisque fired pot. After the tape is in place, the pot has a final layer of glaze applied. Once that is dry, the tape is removed and along with it that final layer of glaze where the tape was. I also explore a few different tape patterns as well as the effect of the order of glaze application. And best of all I end up with some great surprises!

It might be advantageous to try pulling the tape before the glaze has a chance to dry to minimize the chip out.

Thanks. That's an interesting idea. I let it dry all the way so it didn't run (the glaze stayed wet on the tape in particular for a good while). But pulling it sooner, rewetting the glaze a bit, or using a glaze that didn't dry as fast could all be worth a try.

I’ve never been able to get tape to stick to anything except for naked Bisqued clay what brand is that?

Here's the link to what I bought on amazon: amzn.to/3PxQO3B It did stick much better to the raw bisqued clay, but worked reasonably well on my glaze as well.

When you fire at cone 6 will the glaze run …new to pottery 😊

These were fired at cone 6 and did not. However that really depends on you glaze. Some glazes are stiff and stay while others move a lot.
