In this video we'll be creating something from nothing as we make a photograph that brings to life a reality from different seasons of the year. We're out in the landscape of the woodland photographing bluebells and wild garlic using artificial lighting.

That was a banger of a first shot ya did off the bridge. Great idea on creating your own sun to give the bluebells a punch and stand out.

Thanks mate - yeah that first shot was a few years back now, always been a personal fave, was glad to have a reason to pull it out the archive.

Turned out a great shot there Dave. I would have gone directly to software to do it, but I like that you've gone with a physical solution - a bit more to carry maybe, but as you say, really fun!

Thanks Robert. Yeah always lots more fun than at the desk - although sometimes more practical in post.

I haven't graduated to that Wally-level of making photographs, I'm still just taking photos 😂 I have to admit, this phrase has bothered me before as well, but point of your video well taken, as proven by that absolute banger at 2:25 and again at 9:19. Incredible technique mate, really unique and really well done. I enjoyed this one a lot! Great chat the other day pal, we'll schedule another one again soon!

Not to worry mate, I've always thought of you as being at wally level hahaha!!!!! It definitely has levels of pretentiousness to it. I'm probably more inclined to say 'create' myself, feels slightly less of a prat thing to say....although I guess I'll still be a prat! Thanks and yeah def, speak soon.

Interesting video, Dave. I'm currently thinking about 'making an image' for a local photo competition. It won't be a composite, but it will require me to artificially bring things into a scene. My mum would call it cheating (using photoshop/lightroom etc is cheating as far as she is concerned) even though she used to work in a darkroom back in the late 60s, to which I say so you never used dodging and burning techniques! 😊

You just have to take a look at Ansel Adams to realise how much 'cheating' went on in the darkroom back in the day - there's several documents of him holding the 'sooc' print vs the 'darkroom' print....very different images indeed. It's well reported that he changed prints over the years, going back into the DR to manipulate the negative in different ways.
