Damn!! Can some of you guys relax. Ultimately it’s his house. He can design anything as long he’s happy with it. Even if he created some mistakes in the design, he will eventually notice it. The thing about Singaporeans is that we tend to find fault in others or can’t be happy for other people success/happiness. If you got nothing nice to say, don’t say. If you wanna say something let be a constructive criticism.

It's great! A home should be a comfortable place to go back too. I like that you bring every part of Japan that you have liked to different part of your house. So what if it is not like a typical Japanese home, it suits you because you have thought through how to enjoy every part of your house. I am envious! 🤗

Its amazing what you did to your house Amal. It is so refreshing and a bit surprising that you did something so unlike the typical Singaporean homeowners here. Thank you for sharing and please ignore those juvenile labellings or those who belittled your design skills, or questioned your understanding of zen. If you attained zen (its a state of mind after all) with what you did with your house, then you've succeeded. I'm so impressed with what you did with your bathroom and the incorporation of the Arabic calligraphy with that of the Japanese ones. BTW you got a Chinchilla! :)

Honestly speaking as Japanese, this is stereotype image of Japan and not Japanese style. I understand his passion towards Japan and love of Japan. So I hope he will renovate his room soon.
@Ruler4
@Ruler4 4 жыл бұрын
You want him to renovate everything again, just because you say it’s a Japanese stereotype??? I can’t believe there’s 17 likes on this Putting the “stereotype” of Japan aside, at the start of the video he already mentioned everything is designed himself, this is his understanding and his preference of how a Japanese style home should look, he didn’t get some professional Japanese interior designer to come in so to appease the Japanese, this is how he wants his house to look, and it’s inspired by Japanese homes keep in mind INSPIRED, not COPIED, cut him some slack about your “Japanese style” and just let it be, it is a great looking home.
@LC-zi8jw
@LC-zi8jw 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think you even understand the correct meaning of stereotyping. This is his home and he's filling it with things that reminds him of Japan so obviously there's gonna be pictures of Mount Fuji and tatami mats (which to be honest most Japan houses, not apartments, but houses have them too). Japanese style you say? I suppose you mean Muji style which most homes in Japan's renovations are made to look like? Those are too simple and boring and it's not gonna remind him of anything about Japan.
@cangjie12
@cangjie12 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. this whole thing is a caricature, a cliche. Really weird and creepy. A fetishisation of Japan. Imagine if someone designed a British house and put red telephone booths and British flags and pictures of the queen everywhere. But then I suppose those other commenters wouldn’t see anything wrong with it either.
@jaketanaka1188
@jaketanaka1188 Жыл бұрын
@@cangjie12 yes that was exactly what I wanted to say. If you see forefinger which really likes U.S and design his house with Statue of Liberty in corner, curtain with stars an stripes etc.And come out to media and says “This is American style” .Loving a foreign culture and recognizing it correctly is different .

@ji1511 4 жыл бұрын
Most actual average Japanese apartments aren't minimalist. Its usually small and cramped ,not the Zen like notion most of us have. Living in one, you have to be very creative with the use of space. But funnily, one can get used to that small space and really appreciate the size of flats here.

Yeah but local old folks won't sit or stay too long. Only Koreans and Japanese would feel at home especially tatami floors. I have a friend who has a similar style with Japanese tatami and so on. It's nice but need to look for many things by yourself as this is pretty personalise feel. Actually most Japanese modern homes do not have all these anymoe. Hahaha.......only those old ryokans house in the outskirt of Japan where you get to see it. Even private onsen, they use modern bathtubs which you can control the water temperature but a few local companies do specialised in onsen using traditional cedar wood which is most Made in USA.
