Thank you! It's always fun to make and pleased we're getting better at it each year. Fingers crossed we get a good batch with the way the weather is. I think we'll be fine, but man alive she's throwing curve balls daily.

Awesome video,you didn't let me down,that first tree was definitely a drop a second or better,such a sweet sound, see what I did there lol,as for my comment on your last video that I can't do sap this year,I don't feel so bad now as we had more than four feet of snow last weekend in three days here in Cape Breton,can't wait to see the next video ,

lol, thank you!!! I was telling Ms. Lady about you not being able to boil a couple nights ago, and she was equally "aw mannnn" as I was. That said, I would LOVE four feet of snow. Snow AND sap is my favourite. Are your temperatures back to winter, or are you still looking spring like?

Loved your rant Jay you get it my friend. Being out the woods offers so many pleasures if you just sit back and allow it to. The journey 👍👍 We're getting about 70 dollars a gallon down here in PA and these big farms are making a killing off it and everyone is doing it 😅

Journey for the win! We have a few farms around us with some super impressive installations. All vacuum lines and sugar shacks bigger than a garage, but I bet at the end of the day they're still have just as much fun... I'd hope so anyway.

Thank you for coming along!!! It's been a strange season this year. Yesterday was spring, today there's a weather warning for 80km/h winds and a sudden sub-zero drop in temperature. The only thing constant is my headache from the barometric pressure 😂 Feel free to take a look at our first and second sap boil videos if you haven't already. Was able to get out this week and grap close to another 38 litres, and if I can get there before the monsoon starts today, hopefully there's at least another 19. That will make for a decent boil #3 this week. Have a great day too!

@@Mike-cc2eu That's a great haul! We pulled in substantially less than that Tuesday (about 7 gallons), but are operating with 18 trees and the weirdest weather I've ever seen. As I type this is below 0 and snowing. This morning I was in a t-shirt and the grass was green. Who knows. But all of that aside, wishing you a great season as well! Are you doing the 65 trees with pails, or running any lines? I took the train and spent a summer when I was 16 in Vermont at my Uncle's place, repainting their house. It was hot, but New England was gorgeous and you could have told me I was still in Canada and I would've believed you. Lovely country you have down there. Take care!

love the cedar you walked through, drip as soon as tapped, awesome, this is what memories are made of, good for you guys, a week ago the NS Groundhog predicted early spring, then they got 150 cm snow in places, whatever the weather we adapt but take it easy on us weathermaker :) stay safe, abduction by Carl lol
@simplewoodslife
@simplewoodslife 6 ай бұрын
Carl is NO JOKE! lol. I don't know if you've ever encountered something as fierce as the Canadian goose, but with a wingspan that can get up to 6' these cobra chickens are not to be trifled with! I still don't understand the groundhog. Every year we hear about the predictions and then they seem to let it slide if he's wrong.. Figured it has something to do with a Weather Network connection, both of them protecting each other likely 😂

@@simplewoodslife yes I was totally serious about Carl picking you up too, the ganders are the worse, one time one chased my little brother and tried to rip his pants off by grabbing at the belt line, totally unprevoked, my parents had to rescue him as it would not quit chasing him but yet never bothered the rest of us and it was not nesting season.

@NatureInspiredSnipsnSnaps 😮😮😮 How is Canada regarded as such a polite nation, and yet our identity is so intertwined with these hissing sacks of anger? I hope your brother was okay when all was said and done. Safe to say he doesn't have a special part in his heart for these birds 😜

that old drill looks like onei have. watching maple videos was great last year and looking forward to this years. were those beavers on the ice?
@simplewoodslife
@simplewoodslife 6 ай бұрын
Glad you dug last years shenanigans! 😂😂 The drill worked great, but also think it's time to invest in a new battery operated one as it makes things quicker. Those were river otters on the ice. They bring up larger fish and snack on the ice itself. Friendly little things, and super curious too. Not sure if you saw my final paddle of 2023 (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gsh-Zrp-kpmugIU.html) but they were following me on that outing. I've heard of folks getting attacked by them when riding sups or kayaks, but in those instances I think folks invited them up and thought they were a pet. Nature's gonna bite.

I don't think we can ignore the correlation between Carl's arrival and your weather problems.. Correlation doesn't equal causation but also Carl is a jerk. Geese are the worst. Best part of Fall is watching them all fly south. Love the maple syrup videos. Definitely truth in the value being in the activity not the end result. wish I'd have had more appreciation for that in my youth.. guess that's just part of youth though.
@simplewoodslife
@simplewoodslife 6 ай бұрын
Oh I like that better... Carl is the reason for the change in weather - totally takes me off the hook for having to become some kind of military weapon. Geese are the worst. Although at the same time pretty majestic in a photo or painting. Totally agree with the youth observation, but also do my best to ignore my age at every turn. To quote the Step Brothers movie night goggles scene; "Can you imagine if we had these when we were 12? Even better. We got 'em when we're 40". Yep. I just used a Step Brothers quote in line with Shaw's quote of "wisdom being wasted on the youth". I don't regret it either.

Jay buddy you need a new drill i have a ridgid and installed 102 taps and its still at 3/4 bars for battery life.

I figured it was that... Like I said in the video, sheds, woodsheds, decks, stairs, gardens, bunkies and porches... this thing doesn't owe me a dollar. I've had sockets on it driving bolts that I'm sure it was never intended for... and while the manual old-timey drill was a romantic addition to the mix, it was a bit of a pain. I do like simple, but I also like machines. 102 taps... whew, I barely made it 6 on two batteries.

🤩 Thank you! I'm just about to light the bbq for some Peruvian chicken I've had marinating all day, but will definitely check that out this evening. Is your sap still running? Our days went hot and she slowed right down, but we're cooling back off so hopefully we get more tomorrow. Would like to get enough to do an inaugural boil next weekend.

Jay the sap has stopped flowing. It’s been warm here the last couple days like in the 50s during the day a high 30s at night. But I did manage to get 30 + or - gallons of sap. All most done boiling here and watching the Super Bowl on my iPad in the sugar shack lol.
