Josh should do an episode where he leaves the instructions on how to make something and his friends have to cook it while he picks up the food. It would actually give a good gauge on how fast an "average" home cook could make meals against the clock.

Funny thing is: in Mexico basically any food is turned into a taco (if you are a fan of tortillas, that is) because you can eat with tortillas if you want to. When he said breakfast taco, I was like 'what? any taco can be a breakfast taco' (I was thinking pastor, bistec, etc.). But when he put the egg on it... I realized... That's just breakfast. When eating eggs for breakfast, most people heat up two or three tortillas and make tacos with their eggs. (His tacos look delicious, by the way. Buy yeah, I had a moment of enlightenment here)

We do eat tacos for breakfast tho… tacos de canasta (potato, chorizo, chicharron prensado, refried beans, etc…), tacos de cochinita, carnitas, milanesa (breaded chicken, pork or beef), barbacoa, birria (hangover cure), tacos de guiso (basically anything inside a tortilla), and the list goes on and on…

I love the faster concept, but I kinda figure this is less practical than prepping food for a couple of days. Would you mind making a few videos going over some of the prep work you can do ahead of time to make things more quickly? For example, what did the restaurant do so that they could make tacos in 5-10 minutes? As a working parent, I have time over the weekend to cut vegetables and marinate meat, but not necessarily during the week.
@EgoPen

@ Vibe Check ❌
@arthaal
@arthaal 2 жыл бұрын
For this video specifically I'd say you could get the sauce done from before to be one step ahead by the time you want to make the tacos. Maybe get the meat ready from the night before and so on, but in general this specific recipe is pretty possible to get done quick. For more general recipes, as you said, the meat marinate and maybe cut veggies (but not so long before that they get dried up) as long as they don't go in lime juice that could oxidize or get soggy are a good step. Making things like broth and stock during the weekend, that you can use as a base for a lot of things, or having a good batch of white rice for at least few days of the week can help a lot, and definitely make your own pickled veggies and stuff to have something tasty to just put on anything you make to add an extra flavour to it.

I appreciate that he acknowledges the cheap take out taco had its greasy place in our hearts. Clearly the rare steak will always win, but does anyone just have these nice cuts of meat laying around? I have a full garden that produces more than I can consume, but still don’t have all these ingredients (tomatillos aren’t interested growing and peppers are slowly coming in, but not all the fresh salsa worthy). We need a “but faster” with a standard simple pantry. It’s never faster if I need to defrost or go shopping 🤷‍♀️

Most of that steak was unsuitability rare - needed cooking for longer. And the salsa looked super watery.

I want to see you do this when you have to go pick up the ingredients as well. Delivery is there when you want something to eat but don't have the food, a salient point which you regularly ignore to sell the idea that you can cook anything faster than it takes to deliver.

this entire series is for entertainment value and not actually teaching you anything. even if you had all the ingredients and had a staff of people cleaning up after you, an organized, spacious kitchen makes a world of difference in cook time and it's something a majority of busy americans do not have. there's too many factors that this series just doesn't take into account and while i like watching it, it's far from accurate. not to mention ulysses is clearly driving as slow as possible and not even going to the closest shop available to get the food, they definitely exaggerate everything for views and so josh can claim w after w.

@@m.e.p.7223 So they're cheating to make it look like Josh is telling the truth, that you can make a home meal faster than ordering and collecting its restaurant equivalent? You just proved my point even harder.

When I have the money and desire to eat pickup or delivery, it's because I either don't have the things needed for making it myself and/or I don't have the energy to do it, and/or I don't know how to do it.
