This video shows the process of making a taiko from an already processed barrel (staves already glued) that was donated to our group. It includes sanding and finishing the barrel, cutting the round, and applying the first stretch. A full second stretch is not shown, but is documented in my previous video on reheading a drum ( • Taiko Reheading (Drum ... ). Finishing the stretch and tacking are discussed in this video, though using previous footage.
It's a goal of mine to one day get a clean full-process video, but these projects tend to be long and crammed into life with all sorts of other going-ons. This video is intended to help anyone interested in making or repairing drums, but it is particularly for Bakuhatsu Taiko Dan as it uses our equipment and set up, as well as the process that's been passed down in our club.
