Those redwoods are so cool! I will definitely be making one or two for my giant diorama/stop motion set for my Beasts of the Mesozoic Ceratopsian action figures. I plan to make the set something of a forest edge or a forest clearing where there's a mixture of ferns, trees and a pond with water plants, and based mainly off the Hell Creek Formation's environment; so, conifers, deciduous trees, shrubs, ferns, cycads and flowers. I will also definitely put in a pond or perhaps a large stream/waterhole with a removable water layer so I can also animate the fish swimming beneath using plasticine.

I’m so glad to have more trees! I have been scrounging and collecting materials (like all my kids broken green and brown crayons) to attempt your jungle trees and now I have another goal! Your stuff is the best! I’m spreading the word to everyone I know!

I have a little tip for you when you need to fill in small gaps like the cuts on the vines. Use a syringe and large sized needle, such as a size 10 or 12. With the needle being long and thin, it can reach deep down into holes or cuts, without leaving any residue on top. Just fill the syringe with your preferred glue, silicone, or paste, put the needle as far in the hole and push the syringe as you slowly back the needle out. You can get them on Amazon, at vets, or animal supply stores, and they are very cheap - about 50p for a single complete unit, but if you buy in bulk packs of 50, you can get them for roughly 20p each. Hope this helps in some way. Love the video.

Man I adore your work. I'm jealous of your location in that you can find those amazing vines and branches, here in my part of the US I can't find anything remotely that cool in our garden and big box stores. 😭

I understand. Even in my country it is not easy to find them, many of these materials are considered junk that no one buys, so i often buy the whole lot on discount when i find them. Good luck and thanks for watching!

@@johnstonaker2947 The vines remind me of grape vine and ivy vine. I bet if you keep your eyes peeled you might find some growing near you. Just make sure it's not poison ivy!

Question: why did you fill the gaps in the dried vines? I know there’s a reason but I was thinking it would add to interest/look? That’s not a criticism btw: love your work - especially your dry humour!

Hey good question. The gaps i filled were not natural, they turned out to be plentiful on that particular vine, the rest of them were in better shape. I think it was caused during the cutting with some hedgecutter or something. I leave as much natural texture on them as possible, the more the better! Cheers.

Another awesome tree tutorial, thanks! You have inspired me to attempt this kind of modeling because you tend to use natural elements, and your attention to detail is like no other. One thing I could never get behind is fake plastic trees on a diorama, to me it just cheapens the whole thing. Curious though, over time, how do the natural elements hold up? Does the paint and/or a final matte or satin varnish seal these elements from decay?

Thanks and great to hear that! The preserved plants will lose their natural color over time, i preserve them in glycerin first, and then a solvent based spray paint to basecoat them. This is what makes them relatively stable for display purposes. It differs though, some plants/ materials work better than others. I've had bad luck with cork bark for example, it was full of mold and it came with a colony of wood-eating insects haha. That is the risk and also the beauty of working with nature! Cheers.

By the materials you use, I'm guessing that you're Dutch. So am I. But I wonder where do you get your xps foam from? I went to the gamma and the Praxis today and I couldn't find any. I can find it on Google but then I have to order it by pack of like 20 sheets. Ps I love your videos and even though I am just getting started with the hobby I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks!

@Peter Feldkamp That klopt as a bus! Ik hoor je, ik heb er zelf ook lang naar gezocht voor ik het ergens aantrof. Ik koop het bij Van Beek Art Supplies. Ik plaats even geen link maar als je op hun website bent zoek dan naar 'Styrofoam Plaat' (ik geloof dat je ze dan minimaal per 2 moet bestellen) Ze hebben winkels in de grotere steden daar kun je ze per stuk kopen, zou ik je ook aanraden als je in de buurt woont. Altijd beter om het even in je handen gehad te hebben dan weet je wat je koopt. Dat blauwe foam is wat duur, maar heel fijn om mee te werken en je hebt nagenoeg geen afval. Alle afsnijdsels kun je in een doos gooien en daar later weer steentjes o.i.d van snijden. Succes!

@@Paepercuts thanks man, dat helpt al een hoop, binnenkort maar eens een tripje naar Eindhoven in plannen dan, zodat ik het inderdaad een keertje in mijn handen heb kunnen houden. ik kon bij de kwast in den bosch (ik weet niet of je die winkel kent) ook al niets vinden. hartstikke bedankt en nogmaals, toffe video's!

welcome back! And I have a question. Can you give me information about small electric device which is use to attach leaves on branch. I useally using static grass applicator.

Thank you, i bought it on Ebay. It's an Electrostatic Flock Box from a company named Warpainter. You'll get a very clean result with this, as nothing will land horizontally which sometimes is the case with normal static grass applicators. Good luck!

Thank you. My suppliers often have no website or they will not ship overseas. I am on the lookout for an international supplier, it's difficult because customs will often not accept natural materials because they are listed as flammable materials etc. I'll keep an eye out for you, cheers.
