Being a kanye fan is hard. That said, i agree with your video essay. Controversy sells, but we pay Kanye to be Kanye. My issue with the media in their treatment of Kanye is exactly what Katt Williams said. We see a mentally disturbed person, and we ignore them and attach their statements to their lack of sanity. With Kanye, we take ALL of it seriously, not taking his condition to heart. Not to mention if you've ever met a bipolar person having an episode they'll tell you off rip that they don't need medicine because they're fine, this is obviously the mania talking but it's also them being honest. They hate who they are when they're on those meds. It's why so many bipolar people generally quit taking them at some point and suffer a manic episode. It's a sickness, and it's not being treated. Its just being suppressed. Kanye needs help, but just like you said, the media gets free exposure with no backlash. Report on Kanye saying something, judge what he said, get clicks, repeat. Its crazy to me that morals have flown out the window in the age of the internet. From kindness content, to prank videos, to shock content, to putting your entire life on the internet (i hate the couples channels with a passion). Everything is focused on that virality, and it's all so short lived. That said, Kanye continues to create and push the envelope of hip hop culture for that i appreciate him. I genuinely wish he'd just take care of his mental health.

Hey fam, I really appreciate this insightful comment. I agree that in the age of the internet, it often feels like morals have taken a back seat. However, I want to emphasize that the root cause of this issue lies in the advertising business model. Most social media platforms rely on leveraging their vast user bases for advertising revenue. Consequently, signing up, watching, and uploading content appears to be free, but in reality, nothing comes without a cost. Artists and society as a whole are paying the price for this model. If you go to HBO or Netflix, the experience is awesome, and the content is great because we PAY for it. same with video games. Bottom line, I think most people are compassionate to those with mental illness. Its these "free" platforms that bring out the worst in us.

I have a very good friend who is schizophrenic and shares a lot of ideas with Kanye. Hes also one the kindest people know. I take this ALL into consideration when we talk. I dont judge him for it. I definitely wouldn't want cameras in his face.

Thanks for the comment. Society has definitely taken a leap with regard to the empathy and respect we have for those with mental illness. In Kanye's case, it just all gets soiled by the dark side of this attention economy. Comments like yours and the overall positive response from this video keep me hopeful because it's hard to be a Kanye fan without having a certain degree of empathy. Wishing your friend and Kanye well. No cameras necessary.
