The houses are red, since there was a copper mine in Falun, i bi-product of the copper production was this red pigment, and it also had good anti fungal properties. So in essence it was cheap and good. Hence all the houses are red. And now it's tradition.

I have made many butter knives throughout the years as they crack and wear out, always made them out of juniper and just seasoned them with cooking oil. I love them and one can scoop up butter with them without the butter falling/melting off before it hits your bread.

I think they paint things up in Dalarna - although painting a knife used for food would be weird cause you'd potentially get chemicals in your butter and on your bread. All swedish butterknives I've seen are unpainted.

8 inches???? If it´s a Swedish Butter Knife you must use METRIC!!!! ;-) //Jonas from Sweden
@Samppanen

Screw the metric system because it's really convenient and the scale works on a linear scale. What a hassle to use!
@dutchcourage7312
@dutchcourage7312 6 жыл бұрын
~ 20 cm ... and no, it's not 200mm, metric people use CM as the base, not mm. MM are only if you want to be really precise.
@ctrl-alt-awesome5189
@ctrl-alt-awesome5189 6 жыл бұрын
Dutch Courage no meter is the base centimetre, millimetre and kilometre are derivatives of meter hence cent, mill and kilo which are derived from Greek measurements
@andersruke2961
@andersruke2961 6 жыл бұрын
As a carpenter I always use mm to describe lenght or width. Next step up is meters and thats usually when you make long fences or when you visit the lumberyard where its easier to descibe a 2x4 as 2,5 or 3,3 meters instead of 2500 or 3300 mm. Perhaps its and occupational injury?
@dutchcourage7312
@dutchcourage7312 6 жыл бұрын
@C-A-A while 'technically' you are correct about the scientific/engineering side of things; but the normal metric person generally uses CM till sizes go over a Meter. The CM is like the inch, seeing most human implements used are in the CM range, the CM is the 'base' type of measurement for most things. Say a cup is 10cm high, not 100mm. A pencil is like 13cm, not 130mm. Only time i hear people use mm for these things is when imperial people try and use the metric system. But to a metric person it's like saying something that is 2inches, is 16/16s like why would you use the small increment when using inches suffices. Unless you want to go 15/16s or 1inch 7/16s, then you would go for 4cm 7mm ... hope this makes sense :)

It is diffrent. Depends on what the family had for firewood. You need The juniper is more of a medicin plant.

There's not really a definite answer to that. Regular irch is popular to use. Pretty much anything you got lying around works, as long as it's not pine, spruce, yew or some sort of laburnum.

Birch works great, and it's good for firewood as well. 🌳

The knife turned out beautifully! I would love to see a matching bread board, maybe paint half the matching green or a green stripe. Whatever you do I’m sure it’ll turn out great and be a neat project. Great vid!

When you you started talking while staining the handle all I could hear was Bob Ross painting pretty little birds and happy trees with a sleepy little cloud in the background hahaha. I was listening to the video but it was definitely a bob ross moment
