In this week’s episode we take over the Masuma Dam Camping Site in Hwange National Park - making it our home for 3 nights. What a unique way to experience one of Zimbabwe’s great parks!
Masuma Dam Camping Site is situated a short drive from the Sinamatella Lodges in Hwange National Park. Located on a high point it offers a spectacular view of the wildlife and the plains. The campsite is fenced and manned with a ranger which means visitors are allowed to camp here overnight. This is truly an amazing experience since most wildlife only came to the waterhole after dark.
We were lucky enough to have the campsite to ourselves for all 3 nights and we really took advance of it. (Some day visitors even apologized when they walked into the thatched hide - thinking they accidentally walked into our room). We even setup a little office in the hide - best office views ever!
The large thatched hide is great for watching wildlife as they roam around on their way to the nearby waterhole. It is also a great spot to escape the heat especially when visiting in th height of summer as we did.

I was lucky enough to be in S Africa and Vic Falls in January - just before all the COVID business - that's when I discovered your brilliant work, Adam, at the Watershed. Together with a friend and colleague, we'd brought a group for a tour (Mindful Africa). it was a magical experience for me and for all of us. your videos bring it all back, and add so much more. what an incredible experience to stay at the waterhole and in the hide. I hope to get to do it someday. love the elephants, and the thunder, and the rain. wow. thanks so much.

Congrats on reaching over 1,000 subscribers!!! I met Adam last year at the Watershed when I went back to purchase 'West Wind'. I saw the photograph of that magnificent lion and knew I had to have it. He hangs majestically over our sofa and every time I look at him he takes my breath away. Your passion for animals and your incredible photography is such an inspiration...I even booked a safari and bought a new camera after seeing your work. Hopefully my dream of taking beautiful photos in the wild will come true next year...in the meantime, thank you for your amazing work and letting me still dream...

one more question, Adam - around minute 5 on, you captured a beautiful moment between two elephants holding on to each other's trunks. one's gray and the other much darker. what accounts for such a difference in the color? is this just the natural range of colors, are these different kinds of elephants? thanks.
@dinawyshogrod9112
@dinawyshogrod9112 4 жыл бұрын
HI again. I first saw this video which included that amazing sight of the two elephants holding "hands"/trunks only a few days ago, -- and yet so much has happened since then, especially in America, where I'm originally from. I was curious about what may account for the striking difference in colors between the elephants. Whatever the reason, I was very moved by this lovely moment of connection between these amazing animals. And now, given the recent upsurge of bigotry and violence in the US, I see this through an even more poignant lens. If only people were able to hold "hands" like this, notwithstanding differences in colors and hues, just connecting with each other… We humans still have so much to learn. thanks for the reminders of all that is beautiful -- and worth emulating -- out there in the world.
