Elephants cross paths with some idiot drivers in Kruger national park. See how the animals react and how the people respond (or don't respond) to the huge creatures. Funny and informative, this video is a must-watch for anyone who loves elephants!

I understand completely where you’re coming from. But once you’re actually on safari, it’s easy to get jaded quickly. I was in Kruger for 3 days in April and we were seeing several different herds of elephants every time we went for a drive. By the third day, we wouldn’t even stop to have a look unless they were very close to the road. We were instead focusing on searching for animals we hadn’t seen much of.

The driver of that open vehicle passed that elephant herd, dead-slow. It is easy to recommend another road, but in a national park the size of Wales, that is not always possible. So the rule is always to be discreet when passing game ( wild animals ). In other words, no using of the horn ( hooter ), no screaming, no feeding wild animals, and no members of the body outside any vehicle, which could attract predators. And, most importantly, enjoy your time in the Kruger, the Grand Old Lady of national parks in South Africa. She really is special.

Bob in Thailand here, elephants that size can overturn a full sized tour bus. If I run into wild elephants on my motorcycle in Thailand, I turn around and go the other way. Instead of the safari concept, Thailand elephant camps have domesticated elephants that have been around humans since birth. They can be played with, washed, fed (sugar cane is popular with elephants, and pineapple) swim with them, ridden, and posed for you sitting on their knee when they sit down. The drivers appeared very careless to crowd the elephants, especially when they assume the defensive circle.

I love all wildlife The Great the smallest ,Birds I'm enjoying the Birds song ,Especially love Elephants ,I love the way a Herd will gather round an injured ,Sick or Baby Elephant to protect them . The pick a spot and just gather round for comfort There ears fanning cooling each other ,I find watching them very calming soothing ,The sounds of the Bush bringing back wonderful memories of Kruger foot safari ,I want to go back one day Africa is in my Heart . Please take care driving through any wildlife you should show patients for wildlife There Not in the Rat race we are in SLOW DOWN You just might enjoy it . Love Yvonne mullion Cornwall England

Never did find out why idiots in cars should not drive near elephants. Nothing happened to answer that.

I think that there will always be opinions that differ and conflict. What I will say is that the guide actually appeared to know what he was doing. When you're in the bush, day in and day out, you learn how to interact with the animals. Sometimes you have to take the right of way. But there's a way to do it that does not risk lives or an expensive vehicle, and I mean animal lives a s well as human. We have to sometimes give way to the animals. We've sat and waited as baboons threw winter thorn pods down to a feeding herd and only when the baboons came down kit of the tree did the ellies move on. One was even suckling a youngster. Another time !? I had to absolutely get past on a narrow stretch of road and had to get the elephants to move to one side. Slowly, and gently. No revving of engines or loud noises, no speeding up. But, sometimes, you have to assert yourself and the right of way. Just don't take risks if you don't know what you're supposed to know. Those of us who work in this environment hopefully all learn it quickly.

You don't mess with elephants, they are huge. I encountered a lone one once at the Umfolozi Hluhluwe National Park. For some reason, I don't know why it gave my car a chase. I put my foot down on the accelerator and got away.

Man i would have just got out of my vehicle and walked up there and said “excuse me fellas, would you mind stepping aside and let us drive through “. I might have given them some veggies to eat just to make them feel good.😄
