Making the Most of Limited Time: Speed Painting for Majestic 13! [How I Paint Things]

When Snarling Badger came out and casually dropped the slick and stylish Space Station Zero, I finished a team of five miniatures in an afternoon with little more than shades and a drybrush. Seeing some of the notes in Majestic 13's pages about 'grey and black' being predominant colours in the uniforms of groups affiliated with MJ-13, I realized it'd be an easy thing to do it again!
Not concentrating so much on perfect, but finished; getting stuff done for the table in no time at all is fun! These guys are going to be my O.D.E.A.R. unit for MJ-13; I've got plans for an Industrial Arms unit, and I'm keeping an eye out for miniatures that might suit a unit from The Sanctum.

These look brilliant, giving me a mix of Starship Troopers & Colonial Marine vibes in the grey scheme! There must be a special kind of satisfaction in knowing the models you just painted can be used as-is in multiple different game systems.

My only gripe is that WGAtlantic has an STL digital store but these guys are (currently?) only physical purchases. Still very tempted to slap down £70 for 3 boxes of them though because I love me some Starship Troopers and I've been obsessed with the colonial marines since my dad let me watch Aliens as a kid back in the early '90s.

Not exactly a painting tutorial, but Adam Savage has a "One day build" video on his channel where paints some armor from Aliens in the Colonial Marines camo scheme. Might be interesting you want to go for the classic look.

These look fantastic. Your "quick and dirty" method is my "best" method 😂. The Ooh-Rah are great, this has inspired me to paint them. Maybe the pants can use the urban camo effect from another of your videos.

These new minis are a refreshing addition to the ever growing mass of plastic boxes, the paintjob is as striking as simple, plus it's possible using another base color as field drab to give them a different theater of operations. My only complaint are the short sleeves, if you want equip them with an enclosed/hazmat helm, the arms should be totally covered.

Cheers! I think it's easy sometimes to get hung up on the details; it was really satisfying to just smash these out nice and quick to have somethign to play with.

The miniatures turned out great. Getting strong Aliens vibes from these dudes. I can't wait to play Majestic-13. I plan on using some minis I have lying around and haven't painted yet, like my Stargrave troopers, or maybe some of my old Future Wars corporate troopers. Both should work quite well for M13 operatives.

Good, some of my free sprues on the Gamefound Campaign will be Oooh rah then :). But this heavy weapon looks top heavy.

Love the starship trooper style of these minis, I wonder what kind of aliens are in the ruleset. I wish to see more classic grey aliens on the tabletop lol

WGB is my go-to scheme more often than not. I'm not very color creative when it comes to miniatures. Also, yours looks way better than mine ever does!

You mentioned the "marine juice" wash several times in your videos. What is the reasoning behind using it instead of just Agrax Earthshade (possibly dilluted) like you did for example in one of your earlier Cadian videos?

It's a different colour, mostly, and with the amount of medium in there it doesn't shade as darkly as others. It's the same reason why you might choose Seraphim Sepia or Nuln Oil instead of Agrax Earthshade, really just a matter of the colour it'll turn out.

These are 25mm, 3mm thick MDF bases. Majestic 12 suggests using between 25-40mm bases for your team, but 25mm lets them work for most other games as well.

I got that gun metal paint you use in this video, was painting a mini there, fantastic coverage off it, all base colours locked in, got the nuln oil out and washed him.. it somehow washed all the metal flecks off the rifle and all over the mini, has that ever happened with you? It was 100% dry.. lol I am raging.. still looks ok tho.

Yes they are! 25mm, 3mm thick MDF.

Funnily enough there's usually an argument about that. 😂 They're 28/32mm, or 'heroic scale,' or 1/56... the list of possibilities goes on! But 'roughly the same size as an Imperial Guardsman' is a pretty good marker.
