First coffee, opening KZfaq to see what's new... what a great way to start the day. If musicians would see, how much eye for detail and how much time and patience goes in to your instruments they should line up to order one.

I had to come back for another view. I decided to put other songs on my first cd to wait for this instrument. all my octave mandolin stuff, aside from 1 song will come on the 2nd cd. I just know this will sound wonderful. I am playing tomorrow with a celtic band I used to play for. he is saying he wants a new front man, so I might be taking that roll. can't you picture this instrument doing jigs and reels? Still no word on the Juno grants but I am still in the running!!

Really hope it works out for you Barry.. Today I should reach the point where I need the strings to voice the body of the instrument. I still haven't received them, soon I hope. I'll send you a picture later today.

I really am enjoying these videos... would it be easier to cut the fret slots before the tapered angles of the fretboard? Even shallow cuts to position each fret. In terms of a 90 degree angle, and then cut the tapered sides afterwards?

It would work too, I find it a bit brittle to clean the edges with the plane with the fret slots already in the fretboard. I feel it is more precise also as I can center the layout. But then again, if you find a way and you are comfortable with it , go for it. There’s more than one way of doing things . Thanks for watching!

Beautiful work! Looks great. A couple of questions: 1. What type of glue do you use for your fret inlays? 2. Do you ever oil your fret boards?

I use super glue the brand is 2P-10 the thin stuff. I do oil the fretboard but at the end when everything else as been done. I use "Lizard spit fretboard conditioner" works real good. thanks for watching.

Tony, Is your fretboard flat or radius? It looks to be radius in the finished pictures but if so, you didn't show how you carved the radius.

Great work! I have a question: why don't you use any hand plane rather than chisels when leveling the neck with the body?

Very good question! Not sure why that is... Would definitely work... I guess I felt more comfortable using gouges at that point in time.. got 2 in the shop at the moment and will definitely try a hand plane when the neck joints are done. Thanks for watching and your observations
