Nice workmanship. Really enjoyed watching the video. I have made a few Kay Kraft style mandolins and guitars over the years and this is quite similar to those sans the scrolls. Now at age 76 I'm semi-retired and just making instruments forms own pleasure. One of my current WIP's is a matching set of Mandolin and Guitar in the 1930's Kat Kraft style, but both will have 50's style Bigsby style necks. Not unusual since Paul Bigsby made quite a few necks for C&W players guitars. He also mounted one of those necks on a Kay Kraft mandolin. Once again, your video is a very well made and professional production. We can see the dedication to the work. (-:

There are many restorers, techs, all kinds of piano specialists that put hilights and kind of speak generally about what exactly it takes to repair and/or replace or restore pianos but your series on this beautiful antique is the most detailed. I was so intrigued and curious. Your patience and skill is rare. The pianist must be thrilled. Loved the playing too.

How is it playing on black pool table cloth? Does it affect your game at all?

Not at all! If you're good then youre good. If not then? It's not the table lol.

Curious about this machine's infeed-table heigth mecanism - the 4-point truss-bearings. Are these moved by PLASTIC gears with one belt like on the Delta? If you had a Delta before....You know what I mean! The height adjust eventually breaks and fail, even with proper care and very gentle use. Do you see metal gearing on yours?? Thanks for this video, T.

I understand that you like the IBEX plane and why, but there is no comparison with the far cheaper individual finger planes and sets of finger planes offered on line? I just received two brass finger planes that I bought on Amazon. Together they were $34.00 and after 5 to 10 minutes honing the blades and setting them in the planes they both cut very well. I came across this fellow giving a run down on a set of six can be bought on Amazon for $69.00 including five curved bottom planes diminishing in size and one flat bottom. Considering he got his set for less than the cost of one IBEX and I got mine for way less I see no reason to spend the extra money. I'd make a video of mine but real this link tells the story as well as I possibly could. I've been building stringed instruments since 1969. I even made my first wooden curved bottom plane in the early 70's that I'm now making a new wedge to replace the old one. I wish I had seen this video before I bought the two I did just because these seem even a better deal... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fryihLycsZm-Zpc.html

I've been following along your restoration of this piano. Imagine my surprise to find out that the piano was originally sold to someone in Edinburgh where I live and delivered to an address in Queen Street only a couple of miles from where I live. Fascinating. It's a small world.

Been wanting to make my own custom table, like different than anything else. What do you people think about steel sheets as a top, instead of slate? Slates expensive and heavy. So I was thinking of a cheaper but still good alternative. Woods and plastics just aren't good enough. So I thought steel would be good. But it would have to be constructed differently than a slate table. My idea is making a solid table top from wood, then using thin steel sheets over that wood. So the steel won't bend or flex and the balls should roll pretty good on steel. Any experts on that? Thought about just buying a used beat up slate table that someone is selling cheap, and take the slate for my custom table. But slate is heavy. As far as I could find, no one has ever done it before, using steel sheets over solid wood. Think it would be a good replacement for slate?

FYI: Here a great tip to quickly help you bring back the shiny white of the ivory keys, that i have been using for years when i’m servicing pianos or my personal pianos. For stained white keys use 40 volume hair developer and paint it on the white keys, wrapping them with clear plastic wrap then let them sit for a day. It acts as a tooth whitener for all keys, especially ivory ones. It's important to note that these keys are real ivory. Ivory is porous much like unfinished wood. This product and the main ingredient is hydrogen peroxide, so it makes perfect sense that this works so well. Many years i had a customer that used toothpaste with great results, just make sure the toothpaste has hydrogen peroxide in it and u may have to leave it on longer like 3days to a week to be successful because of the lower volume of hydrogen peroxide.

6:26 a small auto body sandbag 4" - 6" diameter x 1 1/2" works great as a "malleable" work platform to rest the piece on while sanding. I filled mine with lead bird shot, it doesn't move much when in use

I like to fill the gaps between the MoP and the ebony with ebony dust. it smooths the transition and create a flat surface for finish over it
