We had the chance to sit down with Andrew Byrd, Professor of Linguistics who was instrumental in the depiction of Paleolithic language in Far Cry Primal. Listen to the intensity in which Ubisoft has decided to create this story.
Big thanks to Robyn Smith, David Footman, the lovely Cara Ricketts
and of course, cameraman and editor- Zac Fanni

About Video Game Sophistry:
Video Game Sophistry is an opportunity to celebrate the creators and the artistry found in Video Games. I believe that Games are the most effective medium from experiencing another world, and another way to live. Expect to see a series of videos showcasing the narratives hidden in every game, interviews with game developers, along with our bench mark weekly podcast, Dialogue Wheel.
Andy Borkowski started this program nearly 10 years ago and, in that time, it has changed from a simple KZfaq show, to a radio show, a tv show and now once again a KZfaq destination. Welcome to VGS.

The directional mic is cool but not the best for sit-down interviews. Please get some body mics. If you need special batteries for them, go visit a local black box theater and ask for if you can buy used batteries, they usually donate some that still have like a 90% charge.

I'm an amateur of PIE. I heard many familiar words while playing, like ptra for feather, presumably plural forms, with the single form of *petrom n. with same etymology with G. Feder, E. feather, AG. pteron, and peskes, fish-es, presumably in pl. form too. And pur, fire, just like Ancient Greek pur., and ptra, to fly, with presumed inf. ptra-re or ptra-se. I suspected it should be PIE from the start and it turned out to be true.

If you're going to hold the mic two feet from your guest when he speaks, make sure it's also two feet from you when you speak. Not two inches. It was really annoying to have to adjust the volume every time the speaker changed. Otherwise, I enjoyed the content.

@@spartanRS1 First: There is no American continent. They are North and South America. Second: Everybody knows that there were people in the AMERICAS prior to the European settlers. But nobody ever cares. Your reply to Lion king is like saying native Americans aren't indians because they are not indians. Nobody cares. This makes Lion King's answer look smarter than your quenstion and reply. Third and speaking of your question: Considering that you referred the Americas as a single continent makes Lion King look smarter than you too. He said "America in that time", which still can be interpreted as the pair of the continents. You said "American continent" like there is a single American continent. That's stupid. You give the impression of having no clue. I wouldn't be surprised if you are an American with a US college degree at best. And your name sucks too.

This game is terribly historicaly inaccurate. I don't know why they chose PIE as the language in the game when it takes place 10 000 years BC in central europe. At that time PIE didn't exist yet. They should've based this in-game language on Basque which is believed to be an original old european language. Also Neanderthals went exist 30 000 yrs BC, this is set 10 000 BC. Sabertooth tigers didn't live in central europe. I could go on forever. This game sucks tbh.
