Adam Savage’s Tested

Күн бұрын

One of our favorite shows of late has been the murder mystery show Poker Face, starring Natasha Lyonne and created by Rian Johnson for the streaming network Peacock. And in its first season, the show pays homage to stop-motion animation with an episode inspired by the work of Phil Tippett! Adam visits Tippett Studio where puppet fabricator Kayte Sabicer shows us some of the puppets created specifically for that episode.
Shot by Josh Self and edited by Norman Chan
Music by Jinglepunks

Its great to see the work of masters of their craft, and also get so much insight into their process. I am certain that their work will inspire future animators, I am an aspiring animator and this has me SO excited to watch them come to life on screen! Thanks for making the video, I am certain this channel inspires many young artists as well.

I was watching this episode thinking I wonder if Adam Savage has seen it. I figured it was based on someone real I just didn't know who. Great show and while I may not be as old as you i really enjoyed how it harkens back to old detective shows. This episode I kept pausing looking around at all the interesting things in the workshop so I'm happy you were able to look at and show us things in more detail. Thank you

Im so glad that Stop Motion, actual physical SMA is still a thing and hasnt been taken over with CGI yet. Its great that all those skills and years of development are still being passed on. Im a closet Roy Harryhausen fan and Im so stoked I actually got to meet him once after an animation lecture he did in my home town, and he smiled when I asked him to sign a postcard of the fossilised miniature horse that was on display in Leicester at the time (borrowed from Germany). His miniature horse in 'Valley of Gwangi' has always remained in me. He had a great skill of adding personality to his characters (even to his flying saucers!). I just wish it was easier to find computer software for animation from multiple photos outside the proffesional budget.

Oh I think I recognize that Phicen body lol. It's wild to me that the latest development craze in action figures is silicon seamless bodies with a metal understructure. Just casual 80 year old technique is the new hotness.

I'm glad he mentioned God so I could. a long time ago his channel did an episode on the workshop of the creator of Mad God. I had no idea what it was all about, but after seeing the work he was doing I didn't care what it was all about. his work was amazing. I had forgotten about the project until a yt thumbnail reminded me. I just watched it and I was not disappointed. just the opposite. it was so much more than expected. the inclusion of love action seemed to make it even creepier. that amount of work put into this project must have been mind numbing. thank you for an unforgettable movie experience and thanks to Tested for being the ones to introduce his work to me.

The part about mailing stop motion animation stuff being nerve wracking reminds me of the video Captain Disillusion did on the special effects for Flight of the Navigator where he got his hands on one of the stop motion space ships used for the door opening/stairs forming sequence (from the look of it, it wasn't a cheap prop to get hold of either, the auction is still possible to find with the prices and stuff) and the thing that was missing was the armature that went in under the stairs to hold them up in position to make them appear to hover from the right angle, so he worked with another creator who specialised in 3D printing to make the armature, sending some of the stairs from the original prop to him to use to design, build and test the print... and when he went to mail them back, the irreplaceable 30+ year old prop pieces vanished into the aether en route

Absolutely devastating. I collect dolls that are many times limited edition and from retired artists and I've reached the point where I'm learning to paint them myself because I refuse to mail them to anyone for fear of them getting lost in transit.
